Not for me.
I don't like cheating, he feels left out when her career takes off so it makes it okay for him to sleep with his ex on and off??? No. Just no.
How would you ever trust him again?
I hate the mentality of I love her but I can't have her so I'll have sex with someone else, even my ex.
ARC.

I went into this book blindly, this was so confusing to read.

Each chapter switches between Ben and Tatum’s perspectives, which I don’t mind. However Ben’s chapters are told from present to past and Tatum’s side is past to present. This was difficult to catch onto for the first few chapters and just made reading this unpleasant for me and hard to follow. Really put me off.

Towards the end that pattern stops though and while still switching POV between Ben and Tatum it starts to move chronologically. I would have preferred it just be written that way from the start.

I'm usually a big sucker for romance and have been enjoying a fair few recently but, this wasn't it for me.

3.5 star read.

I have mixed feelings about this book ... I liked it - and more than "this was an ok read" - I was eager to keep reading and to find out how it ends. But I also felt that at times it stalled, that it just didn't move quickly enough and repeated itself one time too many.

Tatum and Ben fall in love ... and then life gets messy and complicated and things happen.

What we get is a story in two parts.

Part 1 told from alternating points of view, Ben and Tatum's depending on that chapter, and also told either in chronological order (Tatum) or backwards (Ben). The first 70% of the book is told either as Tatum falls in love with Ben and then leads to the eventual separation, while every other chapter gives you a snippet of Ben as he goes back in time - from the separation and what lead to it, to falling in love with Tatum and what made him choose her.

It sounds more complicated than it is. But it's also the reason I felt that a lot of the story was repetitive - because you have alternating points of view on similar events, or times in peoples' lives; you end up with things repeated... things that maybe don't need to be repeated. And so that's where I found it dragged.

Then you get to Part 2 - the present day. Both Tatum and Ben take turns bringing us to the "grand finale" - and that moves faster. Far less repetition and it reads more like a traditional novel.

Overall, this is a book about two people who love one another but get caught up in life - either trying to live up to expectations, or trying to surpass expectations. It's well written, a little long-winded, but an enjoyable read. If you have read [b:Firefly Lane|1472878|Firefly Lane (Firefly Lane, #1)|Kristin Hannah|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1362435448s/1472878.jpg|1463850] - I think you would enjoy this book. It's about relationships and finding yourself and finding happiness.

This is a really good book. The author's note says Allison struggled with the structure, but you can't tell; it seems well-crafted and cleverly constructed. I had a few issues with phrases that came into use more recently than the story claimed, but those were fewer and further between than I had feared at first.

So what's the issue? Why am I not caling this brilliant? It certainly could be considered such by many. The story is very strong. The structure is fascinating. So what's the problem?

I'm not sure, except for some reason, I didn't make that emotional connection I needed to. I should have bawled my eyes out over the thing that brings Ben and Tatum back together, and I should have cheered at the way this ended. I wanted to. There were times when I couldn't put the book down, nights when I stayed up too late, reading.

Maybe it's that ultimately, the bubble of the book was too hard to penetrate, at least by me. I don't know. I just know it didn't give me the feels I was hoping for.

That said, it's a great book. Thoughtful and poignant. Definitely worth the read.

Another pretty cover with a promising premise and an author I have enjoyed reading before. Not being a regular romance reader I was really looking forward to this one. Unfortunately found it disappointing and started losing interest in the characters and story after the first few chapters.

Thank you to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for providing a digital copy in return for an honest, unbiased review.

Another of hers I could not finish. Got farther on this one than other ones....I'm just not sure why I can't read her. I did like the premise of this but not the writing style.

Loved!!! After reading Between Me and You, I hurried to buy more of Allison Winn Scotch's books. I really enjoyed the unique way in which she told Ben and Tatum's stories. Both of the characters were very compelling, and I couldn't put it down until I got to the end!
