I've been wanting to read this one for so long. It was so hyped up, but it was so disappointing. Between the lack of depth and character development and the fact that Kallum sleeps with Elena's mom, it was just too gross for my liking. There was no chemistry between Kal and Elena and that's to be expected since Kal didn't even really want Elena. Just her mom, which is so weird and gross. The whole reason their relationship started was because Kal was writing poems to Carmen, Elena's mom, but it was Elena who was receiving them. And that's pretty much the whole plot and how they ended up together. Every time there was any situation that would have deepened the relationship between Kal and Elena, it went straight to a spicy scene. Though, the spicy scenes are the only thing worth reading because đŸ”„đŸ”„ I'm hoping book 2 with Riley will be better than this. Big flop for book 1.

I have to give a huge shout out to Rock Engle and Charlotte Claremont for a wonderful wonderful audiobook. The dedication these two have to their craft is evident in every word they narrate!

I thought the lil taboo would be too much for me but I came around pretty quickly. And then my soul was ripped through my heart and stomped on. I was so distraught during the last quarter of this book I actually thought I wasn’t gonna make it to the end đŸ˜© my love for a Hades+Persephone inspired story continues with an absolutely knock out

KEEP IN MIND, this is not my typical reading genre.

Honestly, given the trope (bad boy, decent girl, mob family, marriage for the sake of the mob family), I think it could have been better. The main girl doesn't really have any fleshed out interests. She likes poetry, has a tattoo, hates her family.

Kal, bad doctor boy, is. . . You're telling me he had an affair with the mom years ago and it so totally over it, yeah yeah, deffo not that he still loved her and marrying her daughter was to get back at her or anything. . . Wacko. This is also messy as shit to an already messy plot.

No wonder the book is self published. No coherent editor or publisher would produce this book. There is literally no plot. The characters are hypocritical to what they are described of being. The “plot” holes are craters. The age gap doesn’t fit. The writing is awful- everything is so dramatic: “My knuckles turn white on the bannister from my grip as I walk up the stairs.” Insert eye roll.

The FMC is drugged, she walks 3 blocks down from the bar where the MMC left her (completely random btw) and he can’t find her sitting outside a bus station bench? The MMC holds a grudge because he had sex with the FMC mom and it went sour. He “watched her grow up.” But he is 32 and she is 18?

This book is just bad in so many ways. I gave it a good 200 pages and got absolutely nothing out of it. The attempt of writing a mafia dark romance comes off as a cheap fan fic the author wrote on her journal. Hard pass.
