This book was problematic for me.
I found the cohesion between the past and present storylines didn't make sense to me. They just didn't match up. And Sophie, the daughter, came across as a 20 something but in fact she was in her 40's! What??! This part made me crazy! I spent the majority of my time trying to calculate ages and timelines. It was excruciating.
The story wasn't anything innovative or amazing, but it's a tried and tested formula that COULD have been done well and wasn't.
Overall I give this book a Meh

As I am not familiar with author's works, I did not really know what to expect. But I must say that I expect something more romantic and sweet. What I got was totally different but I enjoyed it.

I liked how author told this story. I think we all have had those moments when - even if not so huge & dramatic as in the book - as we grow up, we find new truths and sides of our parents. Or maybe we realise that what we saw and thought to understand, I totally different.

Anyway, it is definitely not the book of the century or masterpiece, but it is quite enjoyable, realistic, dark, time to time sad and interesting.

Very mediocre, it really didn't have enough depth to it and I couldn't help but feel that important things were brushed over and left unexplored, where unimportant things (Brett's weird sexual desires!) were given too much focus and added nothing to the plot.
I guessed the big secret early on and the big finish was pretty much given away in the middle, it just didn't capture my imagination in the end, and I certainly wouldn't recommend it to my friends.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the way it built the story up and how the characters gained just the right amount of depth to keep you engaged. It gave you enough to keep pulling you in but not enough so there was no point going on. This is the 3rd book of Nick Alexander's that I have read and I shall be reading more.

I really enjoyed this book. It's is written in a dual time frame but is very easy to follow. The storyline captured me until the end. Although I had guessed what the twist was by the time I had nearly finished it wasn't disappointing.

I wanted to like this book more than I did. There was promise at the beginning, and the overall plot and twist was ok but the writing didn't grip me. I simply read it to get to know what had happened in the past and in the end I wasn't bothered about what had happened. It started out well but could have had more of a thriller element.
