I have a few patrons who keep talking about Tom King's Batman run, and I really enjoyed his Vision, so I picked this up having not read much Batman aside from the obvious highlights of the past several years. Taking that into account, this was a decent story, but not a great Batman story. It was good enough, and I really enjoyed Alfred, but the rest seemed like stretching as far as possible to tell a Batman story that hasn't already been told. I'll likely read the rest of the run, just so I can hold a conversation with the people who keep talking about it.

Snyder's run was tough to follow but this is a pretty good start to King's run.

Tom King is the hottest writer in the industry at the moment. Here is the start of his take on Batman, one that seems to be informed by Bats Silver Age persona. Recommended.

conflicted. King mixed the frank miller batman with the paul dini batman essentially. There are moments where batman is brutish and crazy and other moments where he's compassionate and trying to help people. Still mix on the characterization but overall a good read

I think Batman is just a bit too much of a drama queen for me, honestly. Yes, it's terrible your parents died. WE GET IT ALREADY.

This volume introduced a brother & sister duo who gained superpowers by, of all things, buying them. Using their powers strips years off their lives, though. Their names? Because of their deep love of the city, he goes by the name Gotham. Her? They might as well have named her Me Too (But a Girl!!). Can you guess? Of course you can! Gotham Girl!

We can forgive the writers who took this "girl" moniker route back in the day, when they didn't know any better, but this character was created in 2017, people! STILL with the 'girl' nonsense. Even with her horrible name, she's an interesting character (she bumped the rating from a 2 to a 3). I'm undecided if she's worth reading more Batman comics, though. You have the money, Bruce. Get a therapist.
