oh man. amy’s reflections on a life without experiencing romantic love while desperately wanting it and aging without it really resonated. i appreciated her immense vulnerability in discussing the messy, complicated way it affects all aspects of her life, even when she was aware how deeply flawed some of her thinking was. she put to words some things i’ve had a hard time expressing to others. you could tell she’s a poet with how beautiful the prose was. i also adored the concept of having an album accompany her through her life and using it as a tool for reflection. i’m not familiar with the album but it’ll be a treat to listen to now <3

I’ve never related to a book more, Amy Key is a stunning writer and I feel like everyone, whether you’re single or not, should read this beautiful, heartfelt book.

ARRANGEMENTS IN BLUE was, for lack of a more perfect word, stunning. I repeatedly found myself swept up in a passage, convinced that Keys had taken the words straight from my own brain. I don’t long for romantic love in the same way that she does—that is to say, I love being single and can envision my life without a romantic partner—but I nevertheless found solace in her reckoning with the many ways in which society is (unfairly) shaped around coupledom. I share her desire for a re-centering of life around love, community, and intimacy in their many glorious platonic forms.

If I have one complaint, it’s that the Joni Mitchell framing feels a bit of a stretch. But that is a small gripe in an otherwise impressive prose debut.

I loved, I cried, I now recommend. One to read.

The story bounces between easy reading and visceral emotional moments. Overall a beautifully candid book that makes you feel like comforting the author as much as feeling comforted by the author.
