Benjamin Percy had always met my expectations. It's filled with action and story, and I liked how Damian opens up with the team. Got me curious on what will happen now that he goes to his grandfather and accepts his inheritance to save the Teen Titans.

Wanted to vote this higher because we finally get some backstory and character development for the rest of the Titans but then they had Damian refer to them as his friends. I'm glad he's trying to make friends but he only had like 2 conversations with the Titans and both of them ended badly. They're more like acquaintances who decided to work together on a project. They know each other about as well as you get to know someone you were stuck with in an elevator with.

Percy delivers in a big way on the promise of this team dynamic. Damian, Wally, Raven, and Starfire all share "bad blood" that haunts their history. Their desire to do good comes from a repudiation of the evil in their genealogy. In that way, the character interactions between the four draw out important aspects of each character and their motivation for becoming superheroes. Though Damian quickly turns to thinking of the others as his friends, the interactions between him and Wally convey a sense of genuine friendship. This mirrors the dynamic between pre-New 52 Wally and Dick in the concurrently running Titans series. If Titans is successful because of its adherence to convention and awareness of history, Teen Titans is successful for all the ways it bucks convention and envisions a radically different future of heroism.

'I'm still trying to figure out how to be good.'

You're doing great, baby!

I love this team. I never watched Teen Titans growing up, only Young Justice, and they played a central part in the Justice League VS Teen Titans animated movie that I watched last year, but I feel this is a really great way to get to know their characters. I honestly thing Damian makes a better leader than Batman because he's open about how he feels and doesn't try to hide his weaknesses- I feel like the Titans all fill in each others weaknesses to create the best team possible, and I can tell that by the first three issues alone, which says a lot about how well written these comics are.
