This wasn't a bad book, it just wasn't what I was looking for. LOVE that the MC is a woman (of color) in STEM. The romance itself is a complete whirlwind and entirely based off of their physical desire for each other, which is just not my cup of tea. And many of the plot points were predictable. (Yes, I know it's a romance book, but even outside of the romance!)

The royals ride segways to save time and I think that’s just fantastic. The rest of the book is just ok, but man, the segways were a delightful addition.

I cute quick romance read! I didn't love our love interest but our MC makes up for it! I also loved that this followed black characters since mainstream romance novels have been too white for too long!

Three stars ☆

First of all, the Cinderella-trope is one of my all-time favorites, and this book did not disappoint. The pacing was just a little bit off - some parts dragged too long, but the highlights of the plot were really really good. Naledi is a strong, lovable character and is extremely relatable to me as a POC in STEM. Her love story with Thabiso was super duper cute, although a bit rushed towards the end. I wished we saw more of them as an established couple, but I'm sure we'll see more of them in the next books.

Highly recommended series!

This story was like a Tubi movie tbh. It was alright if you suspend your disbelief.

I really enjoyed the first half of this romance. The second half of the book felt muddled by too many plot lines. And at nearly 400 pages, it was a touch too long.

I've never read any books by Alyssa Cole before, but someone mentioned the second book in the series on twitter, and it sounded really interesting. Alas, the second book wasn't out yet (it is now!) so I decided to read this, and I'm really glad that I did. I thought it was going to be a light romance, but it was really a deeper story. LOVED the female main character, Naledi. I'm in a STEM field and found I really connected with part of her story. I would have given this 5 stars, but the ending felt a bit rushed and was lacking in some details that I really wanted to know. I'm glad a random twitter mention led me to this author, because I really like her writing style.
