Smuggler’s Run is a Han Solo and Chewbacca story that bridges the Empire era with the new First Order/Resistance era. As far as all the little “clues” and things there are a few but the book is really just its own little adventure. You know how these young adult books go straight to the action and this one is no exception so let’s get started!

The story is bookended as if told as a story which is actually kind of fun. It connects the eras in an entertaining way. I really love the idea of the ship that’s basically a mobile cantina and while just a little piece of the story it’s just such a Star Wars idea I really enjoyed it. The characters are all intriguing and I’m sure we’ve been introduced to them for a reason. In the canon so far we’ve had a Luke Skywalker book and a Princess Leia comic so it’s great to see some canon storytelling from Solo’s point of view as it’s one thing we’ve been missing so far (but I’m sure we’ll have lots more in the future)! Give it a read if you want a nice dose of adventure!

This was fair to midland read for me.

With the advent of the NEW expanded universe and all Star Wars mythology being redone in lieu of the films, I thought that I would try to stay on top of the new EU with the novels and timeline, hence the reading of the newer short stories for leading into The Force Awakens.

That being said, having seen the film and reading this, they have nothing to do with one another. This comes off as fan fiction written to have some stories of Luke, Han and Liea prior to the new generation taking over in the Force Awakens. Being the chapter selected for Han Solo prior to the film, this was a major let down.

Han had none of the characteristics that make him Solo, other than I am only in it for the money attitude. And that alone does not keep this story afloat. Also, beyond Solo and Chewie, every character is a throw away. What is the point of doing these if nothing will even be relevant later on anyway.

I will read all three shorts for all three heroes, but this is not looking good for the new UE of Star Wars.

Honestly, Han Solo is one of my least favorite Star Wars characters. The three stars are just for Chewie.

Of all 3 books, I probably liked this one the most. Which isn’t saying a lot. But it had decent action throughout and the characterization fit.

I just have one major gripe with it: the author called Han “Solo” the whole time. Like, I get when it’s from another character’s PoV, or when someone else is talking to or about him. But when it’s his own PoV? Han wouldn’t think of himself as his last name?! It didn’t make any sense and it bothered me the whole time.
