It was quite interesting to see what Jules Verne's version of the future would look like from the lens of 1889!

This was a cute, short read. I'm always amazed by the accuracy of his technological predictions, even if he was off by about 900 years in this case. Also kind of funny is that he can imagine radical changes like Britain becoming a colony of America, but women's roles remain the same throughout those 1000 years and are relegated to being wives, traveling to Europe to go shopping for hats, and being late for appointments.

A short story of a man's life in 2889. The age of the story shows through very clearly, but it was a fun read.

Boring and ridiculous. But I managed to read through and there is always an extra star for that

I really, really, really was completely and utterly disappointed with this short novel. I had heard a great deal of good in regard to Jules Verne and his literature, so i really hope this was written by his son.

The future was closer than Verne thought. 877 years ahead of schedule, we already have Skype, iPods, online newspapers, a life expectancy that is beyond 37 (or even the projected 52), and scientifically created food. However, we do not have a self-renewing energy source and have not found alien life forms within our solar system. Read this novella to experience a day in the life of a man from 2889.

Verne's insightful predictions were amazing, and there really isn't a whole lot else in this little story. It's just a vehicle to present a picture of what future life might be like, and to me it lands as humorous as well as impressive.

My favorite line: "Thanks to the Piano Electro-Reckoner, the most complex calculations can be made in a few seconds." He was doing bookkeeping.
