What a great read! This novella just comes to prove one can never say never. Usually I do not like to read anything written in first person POV, but even more than that, I utterly shudder at present tense. It just does not sit well with me. Becky Wright proved me wrong. This is one hell of a ride into the dark side, a gripping read, that had me wanting to go back to it whenever I shut down for the day. It's so very well done, and so very well written I fell straight into the story, and nothing distracted me from it. One hell of a way to kickstart 2018!
I would recommend this to anyone who has a deep love for dark reads, witches, and history. It is THAT good!

Well, I don't normally read novellas but this is the second one in a matter of weeks and I'm beginning to see what I've been missing. Although I still prefer the word count of a book, these 'little books' are sharp, fast paced and perfect for reading in one sitting.

The Manningtree Account is based on the real life events of the infamous Witchfinder General, Matthew Hopkins, and, as such, this gives the tale an immediate air of credibility. The author skillfully weaves the past and the present, taking us on a helter-skelter ride through the darkness.

Her pacing in this is spot on, making you want to read just one more chapter before setting it down. I loved the dialogue from the parts in the past (hard to say more because of spoilers) and there is true menace hiding in the corners, always a sure-fire way of bringing me back for more.

And that twist at the end? Darkly delicious.
