idk why I read this! I'm not a writer at all and I knew from the introduction that the contents of the book most likely would not apply to me and yet I felt compelled to continue anyway.

Bought this because it was a Melissa Febos book, but didn’t realise it was about writing. Found it interesting and was beautifully written, but for me as someone who doesn’t write a ton anymore, think the subject matter just wasn’t for me.

I found this really useful. There are a few stylistic (I think) or language use maybe qualms I have with it, places I was confused by the philosophical/psychological and mixed feelings abt the specificity of some of the political positioning but that's a minority of the books contents. The emotional and personal descriptions of personal narrative are great and there's excellent references and writing advice the whole way through.

I would literally sell my soul to be able to write like Melissa Febos. This was such a great read on writing creative nonfiction, specifically when it comes to trauma. I definitely want to own a copy to annotate and refer back to!
