I’m not surprised this book is so highly ranked! “Unmasking Autism” was mind-blowing for me. I knew very little about autism, and was grateful that this book was NOT written for me but instead for folks with autism. I learned so much more than if this book were written for a neurotypical crowd, and I found a lot of commonalities between unmasking and my own people pleasing tendencies. So many friends have heard me talk about this book because it’s made me rethink who I am inside versus how I camouflage. It’s also made me wonder ways I can improve my workplace to be less ableist.

Finally, I appreciated the systemic lens that Dr. Price takes in his book, noting the ways that systems impact folks like black, trans, working class people with autism. But instead of just naming the problems within the system, Dr. Price also lists the ways to change the system.

I feel so seen after reading this book. There were so many stories throughout this book that were relatable to my own experiences through masking. I’ve always known there was something different and it wasn’t until someone asked me what two and seven had in common that I even considered I’d actually be a bit neurospicy.
Not only did this book give information on how to unmask but how to help identify your strawberry people.
If you know me personally, this might help you understand me as a person better. If you don’t, I’m sure that someone out there in your circle needs you to read this.
