Sheila is scared of a lot of things,which is kind of refreshing if you’re an anxious person. This wasn’t as great as the other Fudge books we’ve read, but my son and I enjoyed it.

My kids and I listened to this audio book over a number of travel trips. While I liked the overall premise of the book, I must say that I was not a fan of some of the language used by Sheila. I must confess that my kids were intrigued with little Sheila. They listened attentively to her story, and they asked several questions based on what they heard. When Sheila said one of our no-no words, they were quick to point it out...every time. I guarantee you that we talked about what is appropriate and what is inappropriate for a child to say. Should you read or listen to this title with your little ones, I am positive that your takeaway discussion will be lively.

I secured a copy of this title from my local library.

The summer travails of a 4th grade girls who is afraid of dogs, swimming, spiders, and the headless horsemen. I asked the girls to rate this when we finished, and one gave it 5 stars, the other gave it 3 (because the talk of the headless horseman scared her).

Read this after "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing" because it was written next. However it was a spin off, so I could have skipped to "Superfudge" and not read this. It was good to read a book of the girls perspective to my son for a change. However, Sheila was an uninspiring, fearful, average character. She reminds me of the female equivalent to Alvin Ho. Sheila was scared of everything!

Re-reading the Fudge Series with my son - enjoying revisiting these characters and looking forward to the final book that was released past my childhood!

Another Blume I missed in my youth. This one was the 'girl' 'Fudge' book. The main character Sheila is a bit annoying, but her faults are relatable to kids that age. However, the book put very little effort into highlighting those faults as something not so cool. Overall it doesn't seem too dated, just a couple things really stood out.

Not my favorite Judy Blume story. I hated Sheila. She was annoying and a liar. She acted like she was perfect the whole book, and did not once mention her own faults, like the fact that she was afraid of almost everything, she whined, and she was a know it all. Even though she didn't know much. There was no character growth with her either, which made her even less likeable.

I also didn't like how the sisters were always bickering and whining and going at each other every other page. I don't think this is something I would recommend to my kids, unless to show them what NOT TO DO.

Nowhere near as good as Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, but still entertaining. Blume does an amazing job of getting the voice of children and rereading this really took me back to my childhood. Sheila isn't really a likable character--she's scared of everything (dogs, thunderstorms, the dark, spiders, swimming, etc.), but she won't ever admit to being afraid and instead covers it up with bravado. I eventually just found her annoying. Nevertheless, she does triumph in the end and it's a good lesson for kids.

Not as great as Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. I just find Sheila so annoying. Ha! Sarah enjoyed this one too.
