I LOVED this look into Carol’s past, and her first year in USAFA! Really good backstory, and I also loved being in her head. I can’t wait for the movie to come out on digital so I can watch it over and over! Having this information will definitely add more depth to the already amazing characters!

I’m giving this a generous two star. It took me two months to get through this book, and I skimmed the last five chapters just to get to the end.
There was nothing relatable about Carol in this at all. Maybe I don’t know her character well enough, but I just couldn’t find anything about her to like. I really struggled with this book. It focused on a lot of boring parts, including chatting at lunch and studying - but we didn’t get to experience some of the more interesting parts. It seemed to brush over events, skipping straight to “and we finished our test run for this” only to then tell us all about them sat at lunch.

I only read this because I wanted to read more Carol Danvers content, but was thoroughly disappointed. The intent of the story was there, but the quality could have been a lot better.

I really enjoyed the internal struggles and seeing Danvers grow throughout the book.

This had some passages that really truly touched me. I felt the characterization of a young Carol Danvers was really well done. I wish Maria Rambeau’s character also had as much growth, but it is a short novel and not everyone can be in the spotlight I guess.
