Oh you ate bitch. Absolutely DEVOURED. Made it worth me slogging through those last four volumes. The entire series was so good until L's death then fell off so hard and I was suffering to get through but this ending?? Oh they brought it home and I am grateful.

A fitting end to the whole story. I infact prefer this ending to the anime ending.

Až tak epický se mi ten epický konec nezdál. :D

Pro mě všechno skončilo pár dílů zpátky, takže..

Ale asi jsem spokojená. Asi. :)

Overall review of the series

I preferred the first half of the series just because L was my favorite. His tactics were logical, imaginative, and bold. His interactions with Light were an elegant dance, filled with tension and intimacy. They forced each other to constantly be at the top of their game and it was enthralling to watch.

I found that the Near/Mello's arc wasn't able to live up to L's arc. Their arc seemed to rely more on action than logic, and while it was still entertaining, it wasn't the reason I had come to enjoy the series. Near's logic also didn't feel as sound as L's. He was always immediately sure of the right answer, which felt far-fetched at times.

However, I loved the fall of Light. I didn't understand why it was so important for Light to be defeated psychologically, but I got it in the end and there was truly no other defeat that would have been satisfying. To watch his own actions and hubris be his downfall, to watch him be so completely destroyed--it made the whole series worth it. And the final exchange between Ryuk and Light was *chefs kiss*.
