OMG! This Game was brutal! I think I like Peeta more in this book, Katniss frustrated me a little. I am trying to give her a break though because of all she has been put through. I am still having a hard time connecting that this is young adult. The details that Suzanne writes about the poorer districts and their starvation to President Snow having blood in his breath. This is such a powerful book two!

This series is the only one that I consistently come back to and this book is the perfect bridge between the first and third books. It has some similar framework from the first book while pushing against the boundaries readers are familiar with and laying the groundwork for the third. As the districts ramp up toward full scale rebellion, Katniss is just starting to dip her toes into caring about more than the relative safety of life in 12 for herself and her family. It’s a perfect trail of breadcrumbs to entice a 16 year old to carry the weight of the world on her shoulders.

I love this book. I’m not sure what there is to say about this book that hasn’t already been said by someone else. But…
- that ending “Katniss, there is no district 12.”
- Peeta 😭 ughhhh.
- Mags, the morphling, Wiress… 😭 dying for Katniss, and Peeta by default.
- Joanna, I’d be just as mad too girl. “I got them out for you.”
