Caz and her partner/boss, Lu Parnell, are called when the body of a young woman is found in her apartment by her roommate. The investigation leads them to Joseph Madden who insists he is being framed. However, Madden has a checkered past and a former employer talks about his temper. Plus, his own wife, while insisting that he must be innocent, also provides clues to his guilt. This book takes a lot of twists and turns which is pretty much the way good writers lead us. In this case, it's the same.
The ending is less an ending than it is a beginning of the next book.

In the meantime, Cat's personnel life aka her father, is coming home to roost.

In my opinion, this second book in the Cat Kinsella series is better than the first. Perhaps it's due to learning the process. I really enjoyed the first book, Sweet Little Lies, but this one is even better. I'm looking forward to her next book, Shed No Tears.

The brilliant DC Cat Kinsella is back, in the new release from Caz Frear which follows on from the hugely entertaining Sweet Little Lies.

Stone Cold Heart builds on the brilliant character of Cat, with her own issues (largely around her dad and his less-than-squeaky-clean history) and faults, but despite all this – or perhaps because of this – she’s a hugely likable character. I love her and the way she interacts with her colleague, Parnell, who is another brilliant character. There are lots of snarky comments and lines from Cat and her colleagues which made me laugh, as well as a satisfying lack of cheesiness or predictability in her relationship with boyfriend Aiden. We find out more about their relationship and Cat herself, on top of the information from book one, and although it’s not necessary to read the first book, I think it enhances the reading of this one.

Another great aspect of this novel is the tight, intriguing plot. Although focused on the investigation into Naomi's death, there's plenty more revealed as the team dig deeper, and a variety of people find themselves in the frame for her murder. There are multiple strands to the story which come together really well towards the end and left me feeling satisfied with the result, and excited to return again to this great cast of characters (whenever book three is released)!

A really solid mystery and strong character development with the main protagonist/detective. I’m not sure why, but I enjoyed this second book in the series much more than the first. The main protagonist was a little more fleshed out and sympathetic. I also feel like the author has caught her stride and the book ended on some what of a cliffhanger so I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

I enjoyed revisiting Cat and her colleagues again. As with the previous book I was quickly immersed in the story and trying to work out who the murderer was. Plenty of false leads to follow. In terms of the back story around Cats family this one felt like it was more of a build up for the next book and beyond.  Can’t wait to continue with this series.
