Loved it, wished the mc’s would have had sex but they didn’t… or at least didn’t tell us about it.

It was as though I'd made a wish to some bad fairy for a customer who'd always pay his debts exactly on time.

This story starts with Miryem, the moneylender's daughter, who was so good at taking over her father's job that she attracted a Staryk, someone who lived in a realm that was always cold. We also have a cursed tsar and unattractive tsarina in the story. We'll see the role of gold and silver, hot and cold, in these different but connected worlds.

This story had different POVs and while some worked out, there was one that really bothered me.
SpoilerI didn't think it was a good idea to have the climax of the story in Stepon's POV. He's just a little kid and it kind of dampened the effect of the climax for me.
All in all though, this was a great story.

Not enough character development. Constantly changing POV without warning, takes a moment to realize who you are. It was a lot of work to try a trudge through.

I got to read this early through eidelweiss, and I loved it.

For fans of The Cruel Prince by Holly Black, The Spellcoats by Diana Wynne Jones, or anyone who loves fairy tales.
