The premise was so so strong and promising - and the world has such interesting building to it but I hate to say it did land flat for me.

There was a whole ending of a chapter missing and the grammer was not all that great. I think this book would have greatly improved with some beta readers and an editor.

There were a lot of tropes I was not a fan of in this book - miscommunication/ not like other girls/ pretty but no one knows it are just some of the few. There was also what seemed to be an attempt of a love triangle but I did not feel any form of chemistry between any of them.

The main couple I could not fathom really - there seemed to just be nothing there - I didn't feel that spark and come across entirely insta-lovey. They moved so quickly I almost got whiplash. The scenes between the two left me nothing but disappointed. The 'spice ' scenes were mild at best. I think if the author spent more time , took on some beta readers and editors this could have been something really amazing.

There were so many plot holes and the twists made zero sense - these guardians were the final straw for me as it just did not fit in the world to me. They made no sense what so ever and seemed to just be there so other characters had reasons to exist.

The main antagonist I also didn't like but not for the reasons I was suppose to - it was so obvious I thought wool was being pulled over my eyes , but it turned out it was Silas. None of his motives made sense and everything surrounding him just... Was a jumble. Do not even get me started on the mess that is Edwin.

I have 2 stars for the premise and the world building that was done. I think if this was rewritten the author has something special on their hands.

I don't read a lot of fantasy but reading the summary for this book got me hooked. I discovered it through prime reading and thought, well, let's give it a shot. Wow, this was the most pleasant surprise. The Compeer is beautiful. A strong female lead, equality, action and humour all wrapped up in an adult fantasy romance...sign me up.
The story mainly follows Winnie and Thad (the king of winter). Winnie works at her family's tavern but also weapon trains with the kingdom's general in secret. She looks different from everyone she lives with a fails to see her beauty. Until a brooding winter king spots her and can't stay away. Each season has a King and the way they get complete control of their season is to get married. Once the season ends, so does the marriage. Unless they are lucky enough to find a forever bride (a compeer). That couple will be together forever, and when they have children of their own, the child will take over the position. After the couple ascends to the heavens - this process can take centuries.
I don't want to say too much of the plot because going into this with no explanation made the book even better for me.

Just a few points. Archer is my favourite character. The writing is spectacular. It was funny, emotional, and a great confidence booster. I already pre-ordered the second book. I'm so ready to continue this journey. Highly recommend

This book has incredible world building. It was a really great plot. The issue was this needed to be longer. So much time was (rightfully so) spent on the world building, that there was very little legitimate relationship building. No build up really that we saw on page. Weeks at a time we’re skipped and nothing felt organic. That being said, it’s a great story and I do recommend.

I’m honestly surprised. This was really good. It was pretty underwhelming in world building and the characters are pretty shallow but the plot?! The pace? The storyline? All good. Pretty predictable in places but also some cool plot twists! TWO plot twists in just the epilogue. It’s a little lame in writing style but the magic/world makes up for it. Seasonal magic, Avatar (TLA) style magic, kings and power feuds, calanmai events, etc. And this is a short fantasy book so it’s what I expect.

To be honest, even though this book wasn't that long, I think that it should have been split into two or more books. After about halfway, I feel like the story had ended and then a new plotline was beginning. Other than that, it was a great book, even though there were occasionally some formatting issues. This book also seemed to do a lot of telling and not showing, which violates the number 1 rule of book writing.

Also, the smut was amazing, so I will say that it was worth the wait.

3/5 stars.

Okay, so a few mixed reviews so far it seems.

I really did enjoy this. I think it has a really unique story plot and stuck true to it. I loved that the character was able to come off the page and into my mind in a relatable way.. However, sometimes it got to be a bit much and I found myself rolling my eyes. Especially at the constant misunderstanding between the main couple. The plot flowed easily, and I really enjoyed the writing style. I was not overwhelemed by the worldbuilding so that was wonderful!

Also, lets talk about HOW SAD ARCHER WAS AT THE WEDDING THOUGH OKAY. It broke my heart for him.

Quick but good read

Overall I loved the book. It has some incredibly fast storytelling and I would have loved to have a bit more world building but overall was a good read.
