This was a very cute mystery book!

The characters were adorable and loveable, I especially liked Lou lous dad- what a character. This book is full of imagination, heart and mystery. I really enjoyed solving the mural mystery along side Lou Lou and pea.

Mystery...excitement...Dia de los Muertos.
I love this book from debut author Jill Diamond. The characters are fun and bring some diversity - one is Latina and often speaks Spanish words/phrases - and have a passion for the arts and botany!
The girls stumble upon a mystery, but when it becomes personal, they decide to solve the mystery and find the person who is creating problems for the people living in their neighborhood.

Everyone else wrote glowing reviews about this book, and they are probably all correct. After all, I am not the target audience, and in my day, I loved Beverly Cleary books, which this is reminiscent of. I just found that this mystery, which is what the Mural Mystery is all about, took a long time to solve. I guessed who had done it before the reveal, but there were enough clue to do so, so that part was well done.

This was not action packed. This was not dangerous. This was just the story of two well-behaved girls trying to solve a mystery in their Spanish influenced town. I did not feel I had to race to the finish.

So, if you want a gentle mystery, with likable girls, then this is the book for you.

If you want a little more action, then I would seek out other books.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.

I support independent bookstores. You can use this link to find one near you: http://www.indiebound.org

Love that this middle grade book is full of excitement but not "drama". I know of many students who will enjoy the innocence of this sweet little mystery.

Thanks you, Kelsey Marrujo at MacMillan, for the ARC. Can't wait to get it into the hands of student readers.

Lou Lou and Pea make a great pair! They are your 2016 Nancy Drew type! In The Mural Mystery, the girls visit the town El Corazon on a daily basis finding that mishaps are happening all over town to people they know - and then miraculously a mural changes to reflect the mishap. They need to know who is doing it! They set out to find the culprit. Jill Diamond does a great job setting up the suspense, while integrating fun! I love the mingling of spanish throughout the story. This will be a middle grade favorite - especially 4th graders.
