It felt hopeless on where the main character was going and the events against him so I didn't want to read it anymore.

I have to say that after having read the first book in the series I was really hoping to like this one…and I did!

The story, well there is not much I can say that is not in the book blurb without it being a spoiler. It is a good enough story. The only gripe I have is the part about Nate being stripped of his power. This is a personal opinion of course but I really did not like that. It just kind of felt like a cheap way of not making Nate too powerful and creating suspense. That gripe is the only reason this book is “only” getting four out of five stars for me.

For the rest I really liked it. I do really like Nate. I do really like his friends. I do really like the ass kicking action. Etc. Etc.

One thing that makes this series stick out a bit, for me at least, is the heavy use of mythological characters from all over the world. We already got introduced to the Minotaur in the first book and this book continues to pile them on. Angels, the four riders of the apocalypse and so on. Vampires and Werewolves almost becomes mundane in this selection of supernatural Who’s Who.

The author manages to, again in my opinion, to weave them into the story in a way that it doesn’t become overly silly and ridiculous as well. Okay, there was that one moment towards the end of the book. I cannot really explain without spoiling things but…pancakes…seriously?!

Romance? Yes there’s a bit of that as well but it’s not the ridiculous soap opera style romance or horny teen wet dream kind of romance that plagues too many urban fantasy novels. It’s just enough to add to the story without it becoming annoying.

I did like how things played out towards the end though. I do not think it is too much of a spoiler if I say that the Wizards Academy’s despicable act of striping Nate of his powers backfires, and in a way that made for a nice twist and, hopefully, will make the next book(s) even more interesting.

Well written, interesting plot, tons of action in this one. It actually amazes me how many more books there are in this series because so much happened in just this one book. I had read up to around chapter 30 but I was pleasantly surprised that Othello was against him. I didn't guess the bad guy either which is really good.

Annoying main character, why set up lots of friends then send them on holiday?

Damn, just damn! I'm trying very hard not to do a full out fan-girl squeal, but it's soooo hard. I laughed, I cried (seriously), I cussed and I cheered. It is everything an Urban Fantasy book should be. Shayne Silvers, you did damn good!

As always I'm glad the bad guys lost, but I felt like the ending was a tad too hokey. But otherwise a very entertaining read.

This was a great follow up to Obsidian Sun. Nate find himself in some real trouble. We add angels to the ever growing list of creatures/beings after him. It's filled with page turning action with Nate's snarky remarks and humour.
I'm looking forward to the next one
