This book intertwines emotion, tense, spice and football in a really good way.
It is a neighbors to lovers.
With a third act break-up. There is a big plot in that one.

this can be read as a standalone.
BUT I think it is best if you read at least the first book of the Harrises brother. Because there a lot of characters in this family and it would be better for this one.

I’m still suffering from a book hangover after reading Kulti by Mariana Zapata so I started looking for another soccer romance. This book was just too immature for me….don’t get me wrong I did like the H and h…. But it just didn’t do it for me. There wasn’t the depth of character development I was looking for. If I skim it’s an automatic drop to 3 stars, and I did quite a bit of skimming. And the need to make sure all the kisses in the beginning were consensual is so juvenile…. Maybe I read to many dark romances and bodice rippers but some of that dialogue was plain silly. Anyway I read it fast because I was invested enough to find out what happened with the love story…I really didn’t care about all the paternity/DNA collecting and testing— that was just plain boring. I might try another of the authors books but I might not.

*I received a free copy of Sweeper. This has in no way influenced my voluntary review which is honest and unbiased.*

Daws is a master at writing compelling romances, and Zander and Daphney really got to me in all the good ways. The wordplay that made me howl with laughter more than once, the very strong attraction between the protagonists, and the big secret Zander was keeping were all excellent parts of the story and the plot.

Daphney was sure she didn't want a footballer, and she also didn't want a boyfriend. So she was mad at Zander from the day she met him in order to be able to keep her distance. Zander was a cocky guy, who was used to girls swarming him, and not having to do much to get one to go home with him for one night. That all changed when he moved to London, though. Because not only was football different - much harder than he was used to - nobody knew who he was, and the girl next door didn't want anything to do with him. Apart from telling him all the ways in which he was a horrible neighbour and inadequate at flirting.

Needless to say, when they did finally give in to the smoking hot chemistry between them, things were definitely good. So good Zander wanted more than his usual one night. And so good Daphney wondered if she might be ready for a relationship once more. At least until the truth came crashing down.

I loved that the whole Harris family was present, too - it was so nice to see them all with their significant others and their children once more. And while the guys have definitely matured a bit, their bantering and teasing was exactly how I remembered it. This made the story even better in my opinion.

Sweeper is Amy Daws at her best, and I was really swept away with my love for this story. This story is chock full of all that I love about this series- the family, nuanced characters, personal growth, and the just right balance of heart, humor, and heat. Zander and Daphney were charming, and I simply adored their story.

Zander is a US soccer star, recruited to the epic Bethnal Green Football club, all while also learning the surprise of his parentage. Transplanted to London, he has a delightful meet cute with neighbor Daphney- they become friends and have this amazing connection, but Zander is still working through and figuring out a lot- and while Daphney initially seems like a great neighbors with benefits situation, real feelings come to play- and sparks fly.

Zander is so easy to fall in love with- I loved the complexity Amy brought to his story as his grapples with the earth shattering news that really causes him to grapple with everything he thought to be true about himself- and really challenging existential place to be when you’re also uprooting your entire life, pursuing your professional dreams, and moving to a whole new country. I found myself so easily falling for him. Of course, he’s dealing with some heavy stuff, but he also had me chuckling with his fish out of water type moments- both being a US transplant and him being so unfamiliar with having to actually pursue a girl. He’s sweet and sexy and so charming- SWOON. And Daphney is what I love most about Amy Daws heroines- she’s relatable, likable, incredibly endearing and admirable all at once. She’s had a painful relationship past, but she’s resilient and strong. She’s a hard worker and focused but also caring and kind- and she’s got a great sense of humor- especially when it comes razzing Zander.

Their chemistry is just delectable - so much witty banter, so many humorous moments, and some real heart felt ones too. We have just the right dash of angst, a little push-pull, but as always, the romance is mostly sweet and fun. The kind of butterfly inducing romance that will sweep you away in its charm and sincerity. You’ll swoon, you’ll laugh, you might even get a bit misty. And to top it all off, we’ve got the favorite Harris family characters swirling around providing that just-in-time touch to the plot. This entire series has such a beautiful family focus, but given Zander’s arc, the family theme shines even more brightly. Definitely a favorite in the series- and another sweet reprieve from the always swoon-inducing Amy Daws.
