This was a fun read but nothing really happened in the book. You’re just with Arram as he goes about his day to day life in mage school. There didn’t seem to be much of a plot.

Also, I’m still not really sure about the title. There wasn’t much in terms of tempests nor slaughter in the book.

Such a treat to re-enter the world of Tortall and see it all through Numair's eyes. Can't wait for book 2!

Update: My only DNF of last year. Well that must be saying something!

DNFd this at 50% because it was just so
boring. The writing style was great and there were some relatively interesting parts, but to be honest, I didn't care at all about the characters, and it's not like they did much anyway. Arram just went to his magic school, Arram learnt some magic, Arram met new friends, Arram this, Arram that- no plotline or anything.

istg literally nothing happened. How is that any inventive to read a book? I don't get it. I can just read a newspaper if I wanted to read a plotless line of thought.

Tamora Pierce does not disappoint in her next expedition into the Tortall Universe. Engaging characters and wonderful plot make this a book you don't want to put down. The only down side is having to wait for the next book to come out!

Tamora Pierce will always be one of my favorite authors. I fell in love with Tortall starting with The Immortals and eventually read them all. Repeatedly. Constantly.

This one just, IDK, it didn’t hit the same for me. And no, it’s not just because it’s for a much younger person than I am now. I can still re-read her books as an adult & just, have such love, such enjoyment. It’s also not the aspect it’s very focused on schooling. A lot of her books have that focus (Alanna, Keladry). Nor was it the fact that we know how Arram/Numair’s future will be.

Arram/Numair was always one of my favorites (issues with his future relationship aside). He’s just not the same interesting, witty person we eventually know. Which yeah yeah, he’s essentially 10 - 14 in this book. He most definitely was going to be an awkward kid because let’s be honest, he’s sometimes an awkward adult. I did just not feel myself loving these characters as much (even though NGL, Ozorne as a villain *chefs kiss*). There is literally no conflict & if there is, it’s not resolved.

I don’t hate it. I’m not mad at it. I will always love this world (except you Beka Cooper, there’s a reason I haven’t finished your series 😴😴😴). I’m hoping she can knock this trilogy out shortly in the next couple of years 🤞🏻

Absolutely in LOVE with this book!! It has been years since I have been this excited over a book and it did not disappoint! Arram is charming and sweet and yet you can see his potential brimming over. It's definitely nice to have already read books that show him later in life so that I have something to tide me over between now and when the next book is released because otherwise I would be chomping THROUGH the bit rather than just on it like I already am.
