I lived through 1987, and it was interesting to revisit. Some of the dialog got a little cliché for me, though, as popular phrases were repeated more often than I recall in real life.
While I liked the characters, Will, in particular, seemed to grow into himself too suddenly near the end of the story. And the last scene at the outdoor theater had me rolling my eyes.
Still, an enjoyable read, and a bonus if you love Shakespeare quotes.

Meh. Wasn't for me. Might appeal to others...just wasn't all that interested in the characters.

Stuff Your Earbuds Find!
I just am going to put it out there, I love the banter and the casualness that came with the characters and being within their heads for their inner monologue. Were there points that I felt like it was over doing it? Yes, but that is half the fun when reading books of this caliber. I also loved the details of having the voice messages open up each of the chapters (if you are doing the audiobook it adds a whole other level of fun listening that was just a cute detail that I adored). This story also showed a very real side to dating in a life that gets too complicated for our own good and takes good people who is willing to work through it WITH each other instead of separately. AKA communication is more key than anyone want to go up to bat for. Such a fun read!

I got this book for free on Kobo.
Honestly, this book did nothing for me. I guess it's well written and all that but I could not, for the live of me, connect with the characters. I admire Kate for being a finance woman in times when that was frowned upon but in terms of character content and development it was meh.
As for Will, he seemed charming enough but way too dramatic (which I get fits the part since he is an actor and all).
Additionally, the sex scenes were so cringe I almost skimmed through.
But yeah, overall, well written but pretty bland.

I really enjoyed this book. Everything was set up in the 80's, is a fun decade and it offered an opportunity to spice things up a little bit. I loved how the author got us feeling like we were being transported to those years not by describing the horrible fashion, or the pop culture, but by describing different perspectives or customs.
Most characters on this book are rather pleasant to read, which means they feel like people, not cookie cutter perfect, cliches or stereotypes. Is a super fast read and the double POV was executed very good. Can't wait to see more from this author!

Enjoyed enough but found the sexism and workplace behaviour towards women a hard pill to swallow. While I understand this was intensional inclusion on the author behalf to portray the workplace in the 80s and how women were (and sadly sometimes still are) seen in a male dominated workplace, I didn’t enjoy it and found it hard to look past

This story was a lot of fun. Taking place in the 80's she really used it to her advantage in many ways. We are so used to getting in touch immediately with texts and phone calls now, we forget there used to be more effort. The use of the answering machine was like a character on it's own. Reminding us of pagers and payphones - oh my the effort! But it was very effective for the story telling here.
I LOVE all of the 80's references that are thrown in. Growing up then, it was like finding hidden Easter eggs when I got all those references. Anyone my age will definitely reference Norm in a bar, we can't help it. So hearing it play out in story from that time is cheeky. The outright sexism Kate encountered was also very real, we often today don't realize just how things HAVE changed in the last few decades. Open sexism was pretty common in the 80's and 90's and things could be said that would have you instantly fired today. I like that her character grew and learned how to not only handle it, but essentially stop it and become very respected in her field.
I loved the slow pace Kate and Will's relationship took. It wasn't a instant love, but it grew and became very real. Also, the thought that Will had a problem with Kate paying or making more money, it seems odd today, but that was VERY real, even to the most open men.
The part though that I loved the most, the random Shakespeare quotes littered throughout the story. They fit so well, and with Joe Arden's voice on the audio, oh yes they sounded so sweet.
Without a spoiler, there is a part in the end, he is full of such emotions, and uses Shakespeares words, and oh my... YOU FEEL IT. You feel it so hard, he is not reading this book aloud, he is feeling it.
One key thing to take away, as in so many novels, communication! Communication is so key, and when we don't communicate, we can lose.

HOSER!
OK I had to say it, man if that doesn't take you back I don't know what will.
I really enjoyed this book, I wasn't really sure what I was going into because the cover gives off a different vibe but I really liked it.
Kate and Will are completely opposite but their connection is perfection.
I like how he gets her to open up and how she gets him to see he is more than he believes.
It's a balance and its not easy to navigate but I just dug them.
I have to speak about the 80's references because it was perfect it wasn't over the top it was just right, again HOSER, bahaha I actually stopped and chatted with a friend about that word because I remember saying it all the time! It still cracks me up.
The audiobook is fantastic, I really loved Joe Arden in this book and Karen White becomes Kate. Loved!
