Shadowed Hearts picks up where Naked Hearts left off, but from Mignon's point of view. There is a brief recap of what happened to her in Naked Hearts. If you haven't read Naked Hearts yet, go do it. Mignon is dealing with the fallout of what happened to her, and the revelations that came to light. You think you know someone, and then they turn out to be a completely different person. Wanting to get away from it all, she decides to take a trip to find herself. And she does, along with a sexy mountain man named Foxx. It turns out Foxx has his own demons he needs to work past. Together, they find their way through tough times. And can we talk about the spice?! Mignon and Foxx are perfect together, even if it takes some time for them to realize it.

Shadowed Hearts is a remarkable emotional story about Mignon and Foxx. I love to see them go from enemies to lovers. Their chemistry is unbelievable from the start, but their journey will have some bumps in the road. But in the end, they will find their happiness.

While trying to find herself surrounded by nature to try and heal her betrayed heart, Mingnon decides to go on a camping trip. That night a heavy rain storm causes her to search for shelter and comes across an empty cabin. One that belongs to a broody, angry and very s€xy man. After an argument with said man, Migs ends up shooting an arrow at him and leaving in search of shelter. Not realizing that it wont be the last time she crosses paths with said man. One who will challenge her yet teach her how to trust, love, and be vulnerable once again, allwong the anger to leave her heart.

Foxx is a man who has spent the last two years away from his family and the town of Spirit Bear. Having decided to return to he cant help but continue blaming himself for an event that changed him and his family forever, and continue believing he is underserving of love. But the moment he meets Mignon, he can't help but make sure shes safe. Having no clue he has met his perfect match, he will be challenged by Migs at every turn, and learn to open his heart to forgiveness and love.

This book will break your heart and put it back together. Please make sure to check the trigger warnings (shooting, grief, victim blaming, PTSD, anxiety, survivors guilt, etc.). I lost count of how many times I cried reading Foxx's and Mignon's book. The way Foxx allowed himself to be vulnerable yet believed to not be worthy of his City Girl, broke my heart. Yet how willing he was to work on his issues and trauma, proved just how much he loved Mignon. How strong Migs was and her willingness to wait for her Cabin Man proved just how much love she had for him. This has now become a book I wish to be able to read for the first time again.

This is another sensational story by Valentina. Mignon’s story started in Naked Hearts, her traumatic relationship with someone who wasn’t who she thought they were. Her trust shattered, she retreats into herself, and as those around her confront her, she completely shuts down and announces that she’s going out of town for a while. A spontaneous camping trip for someone who doesn’t really go camping, is definitely a recipe for success. And when her whim finds her in the middle of the woods during a snowstorm, she knows she’s probably stepped beyond her abilities. When she comes across a cabin in the woods, she seeks temporary shelter, only to encounter a sexy, rugged, reclusive man….who clearly wants nothing to do with her. It probably doesn’t help that she almost shoots him with an arrow when they first meet.

Foxx is shocked, and then immediately intrigued by the feisty woman he finds in his home during the snowstorm. And while their first encounter is anything but pleasant, he can help but find himself drawn to her, and want to help and protect her as she is clearly out of her element. But he’s not living in a cabin in the woods for nothing. Dealing with his own deep trauma, Foxx is seemingly content on his own, feeling that it’s better for everyone if he removes himself from society. But the more he gets to know Mignon, the more he realizes that maybe his isolation isn’t really what he needs after all.

You’ll definitely want to check your CW and TW on this one. The trauma that each of these characters have experienced is no light matter. And for Foxx, it’s actually something you don’t see often addressed in books. But it’s handled with grace and honesty, and it’s brutally beautiful. There are no easy outs or easy answers for them, and it’s much more than just finding each other and being happy. Their journey is difficult, deeply emotional and painful, and ultimately hopeful. And beyond this story of healing is a story of passion and love that is intense and powerful.

This story is about two people with broken souls finding eachother and when they find eachother it gives them the strength to start healing. Just like the first book, some parts made me want to throw my kindle( it is safe though) because of all the feels the author has written. I need more more more of this series and characters.

I am simply blown away. I honestly can't believe that this is only Valentina's second book!

After I read Our Naked Hearts, book one in this standalone series, I knew Mignon was going to be one of my favorite characters ever. She's spunky, has a foul mouth and doesn't mind telling you where to go! Then we met Foxx, and boy oh boy, did I fall in love with this man. He’s grumpy, stubborn, alpha, handsome and oh so rude. But all of those things about him also make him very attractive and he is now one of my FAVORITE book boyfriends. I mean right up there with Zeus Garro and Carter Cross, my two all time favorite book boyfriends. He is such a babe. When Mignon and Foxx come together? Their chemistry is palpable, steamy, and hot, hot, hot! This story was such an emotional rollercoaster. We dive into some serious topics in this book but reading them dealing with their grief, learning to heal and learning how to forgive themselves was something so special. Valentina wrote such an amazing book that really captured my soul. I cannot wait to add them to my bookshelf!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

PLEASE NOTE: Please read the trigger warning before reading this book!

The dedication is beautifully written, which made me excited to read the story. However, I really struggled with it. After a few chapters I realized that I wasn’t connecting with any of the characters and was disinterested in the story as a whole.
I pushed through and finished the story but I never connected with it. I don’t think the writing was necessarily bad or the story either; but personally I just could not get into it.

Please check any warnings before reading.
