I love graphic memoirs, autobiographies, and fiction  inspired by them, and this book was no exception. I loved learning about Stephanie St. Clair and the Harlem Renaissance. The authors did a great job telling these stories without coming across as didactic. My only complaint is that some of the panels were a bit hard to follow in terms of what was happening in them, and I read graphic novels pretty frequently. I could have done without the graphic depictions of violence, especially of
the murder of one of my favorite characters
. But that says more about my personal reading preferences than the quality of the book. Overall a quick, intense, and imsightful read that sent me down a Wikipedia rabbit hole in search of more information. Highly recommend!

Queenie: Godmother of Harlem is about the life of Stephanie Saint-Clair, a Black woman and legend from 1930's Harlem. I had never heard of Saint-Clair before having read this for book club, but I'm happy I read this and that I found out about her and her life. She was a bad ass woman and I really felt inspiration from her story and from the graphic novel itself.

I really enjoyed this reading experience

I'm giving this graphic novel 5 out of 5 stars.
