I've had to read, analyse and annotate this book for A level English literature and surprisingly I actually really liked it. Its alot different to what I what would go for but I'm so glad it was given to us to read. It covers much more serious topics such as mental health, racism, sexism and the expectations of women in that time period. It definitely opens up your eyes to the problems in the past and that some of these things still happen today. The play centers around the character of Blanche to who is a very complex character. She is someone who you want to dislike but like at the same time. You sympathise with her and yet don't at the same time - along with other characters too.

I don't know why we spent two weeks on this book in high school when I read it in 2 hours. I still don't really care for it, but I think I understand it more than I did back then.

Ngl even tho this plot was fucked up I was INVESTED. Development after development was so insane. Also free my girl Blanche cause even tho she wrong as hell I don’t wanna see any misogynist takes. Stanley can kill himself. Unfortunate.

when i finished reading this play last night, I was a little disappointed with the ending, but this morning I see it somewhat differently and I’m very conflicted. It’s tragic, and yes, feels somewhat inconclusive, but I think that’s how it’s supposed to be—it’s a story of women’s futures being withheld by the society they lived in. Women, like Stella, stopping other women from living their future (incoming trigger and spoiler)
because she doesn’t want to believe her husband raped her sister? It’s awful, I hate it, I hate her,  and I don’t even know where this review is going anymore. But she’s just incredibly manipulated by the society she lives in— she continues to live with Stanley even after all the domestic violence toward both her and her sister. Unfortunately, this is not the kind of girls supporting girls ending I, and most modern-day people would have wanted and expected. But it just makes the play all the more impactful.
