I read this for English, so of course I'm rating/reviewing this more critically than if I had read it for fun.
To me, it was an interesting tale, but the characters--especially Blanche--were all so annoying. That whole Southern belle attitude with Blanche and macho man presence with Stanley really bugged me. Maybe I'm just being harsh, since that was how many people acted back then, but I still didn't like it.
Story was good, characters made it a bit worse.

Do you like old movies? I consume classics more them more often than the cgi-riddled things, AND I absolutely WON’T watch Comedy. Sometimes action films are fun for me if they’re not over the top. But I’m a dude who likes to take things slow. Believe that or not, my books & my films are slow paced, and my music is rowdy. Afterall, Aries ♈️ love to make noise. Bang things around. 😉 I love this movie. I must’ve seen it 3 times, I also like A Place in the Sun, and Papillon.

Bookwise, I liked Cat on a Hot Tin Roof better. I haven’t seen the movie for that but crossing my fingers 🤞🏻 that I get to watch it. It was very emotional. A Streetcar Named Desire is all lies. I went through and highlighted all of the lascivious bitties… single entendre! Where it really picks up is the second half, scene 5. Blanche is opening up to a jiggalo and the poor girl is rumored to have been involved with a boy, a dead poet, who wrote her letters, yellowing with antiquity, though he turned out to be a ‘delinquent’. So Mitch is really a bastard about it.

My favorite line in the whole script is, “I don’t want realism, I want magic!” Vivien Leigh as Blanche performs vividly hysterically with the most perspicacious words. Then, Marlon Brando is pompous: though great eye candy. 👁️ 🍬 But blondes were always like the seminal casting choice of both sexes too, but of females I can’t help but see my very own mother Teresa. I think she was an actress in a past life. I myself might have been a consummate, beguiled nazi or bolshevik. I don’t really see any me, enemies, maybe my talents were just omitted from the index because Hitler assigned me to his parade.

As the curtains edge to climax, Blanche recites, “Whoever you are-I have always depended on the kindness of strangers.” I cannot tell you they helped me with my affairs, &tc. But they’re better company. When I’m getting to know strangers I can just be myself easier with them than an inferior, I can measure up, I can front with, can step with, any stranger. There’s nothing foney about it, no concrete impressions made of it… I may sculpt myself as an equal, a superior, even. I’m a no drama type, and, it’s hard not to love me 2 much.

Flashback to when I thought Tennessee Williams was a female romance novelist... oh how I was wrong.

My mom and I decided to watch the A Streetcar Named Desire movie with Vivian Leigh and Marlon Brando a month ago because we thought it would be a fun thing to do. However, it was not as light as we first thought, and we sat there in silence as the movie ended fully realizing what we had gotten ourselves into. I had been thinking about the movie a lot recently, so I decided to finally pick up the play, which was even better! I really enjoyed [b:The Glass Menagerie|92517|The Glass Menagerie|Tennessee Williams|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1391591003l/92517._SY75_.jpg|1324493], so if you also liked that, this has very similar vibes.

All in all, I will make a note to read more of Tennessee Williams's plays in the future!
