Okay seeing Conrad's story was interesting. I did wish there'd been a little more on his relationship with his brother's because they tried so hard to save him despite him trying to so hard to kill them. But it just felt like their relationship got lost in Conrad figuring out that he actually did want to live and finding Neomi. Like, yes, this was Conrad and Neomi's story but at the same time, Nikolai, Sebastian and Murdoch were risking a lot to save him and while they kind of mended things at the end, I still would have liked more sibling relationship interactions, I guess.

Neomi was interesting, but I actually kind of wanted more from her. I did like how she saw Conrad and didn't get scared and how she pushed him to kind of heal. But she also didn't do much more than that. Not that that was nothing, but it felt like her end was really deus ex-machina-esque. It's great that they solved the whole mortal/immortal issue but personally I feel like it would have been better to come from a place of "hey your father wasn't who anyone thought so...". Granted, that would have been thinner than what happened but it would have felt less easy(?) in my opinion. I also liked how she didn't shy away from the fact that she wasn't a virgin and had had lovers previously and she used her experience to show Conrad what to do.

Conrad was decent although I did wish he'd tried talking to his brother's sooner. After he started talking to Neomi and healing, I know there wasn't a lot of time before they ended up kidnapped, but he could have tried talking about why he wanted to kill them so badly. That was another thing I really wanted, besides just more interactions in general, was conversation and all his reasons why he'd wanted to kill them. I really liked that the book didn't shy away from Conrad's being a virgin and Neomi was able to show him what to do.

I've mentioned the sibling relationship with the Wroth brothers a couple times already and along with the fact that I wanted more, I also felt like the brother's got forgotten in the author's pursuit of developing Neomi and Conrad's relationship. We had the fact that they had to go to Mount Oblak, a couple throw away thoughts from Neomi and Conrad about them being gone for an extended period of time and then Myst and Kaderin showed up ready to haul Conrad before Kristoff. But then nothing until Conrad needed Nikolai and single-handedly took everyone out. Like, seeing Myst and Kaderin and the other Valkyries arming up and storming the castle would have been great. But also, I feel like there should have been something about that...like was the original trip a trap? How did Kristoff find out they'd captured Conrad? etc.

first book of 2020 woooo!

this was really such a creative story, and one that i would even recommend as a stand-alone if anyone is interested in reading this series. the writing is a little average but the characters were all unique and interesting and i thought the creativity of the world was super interesting. i also read this forever ago and found it randomly one night and i’m so glad i did! a really great read and one that will continue to be a guilty pleasure for me

Conrad and Néomi's story was sweet. They rank as my 3rd fave IAD couple after Nikolai-Myst and Sebastian-Kaderin (in that order).

I loved this plot - a ghost haunting her beloved home, a vampire in need of recovery.
Very sexy.

I loved the start and the story was kinda cute. Sadly the ending didnt follow trough. I had a feeling that the supporting characters outshined the leading pair.

"Néomi Laress, a famous ballerina from a past century, became a phantom the night she was murdered. Imbued with otherworldly powers but invisible to the living, she haunts her beloved home, scaring away trespassers -- until she encounters a ruthless immortal even more terrifying than Néomi herself.
To prevent him from harming others, Conrad Wroth's brothers imprison him in an abandoned manor. But there, a female only he can see seems determined to drive him further into madness. The exquisite creature torments him with desire, leaving his body racked with lust and his soul torn as he finds himself coveting her for his own. Yet even if Conrad can win Néomi, evil still surrounds her. Once he returns to the brutality of his past to protect her, will he succumb to the dark needs seething inside him" (From Amazon)

To be honest I was not sure what to think of this novel when I heard it involved a ghost. A ghost and a vampire? The worst of the Wroth brother nonetheless. Yet, the novel had me from the beginning and I enjoyed the romance between the two lovers who could not actually make love.
