Sadly, I think this was the most disappointing Asimov book I've read.

I feel sorry for anyone that reads the prequels before the main series as that cheapens the whole thing.

Removing the mystery from the original trilogy wasn't helpful. I feel like this entry in the series worsened things, not improved them. The mystique of of Hari Seldon and Psychohistory is shattered.

Objectively this is a step up over the other post-trilogy books. It doesn’t follow the usual formula at least. Maybe I just had foundation fatigue, but I wasn’t quite as into this one as I probably should’ve been. I just wish there was more Foundation background. But when it does come up (particularly at the end), it’s very powerful.

Overall, foundation is a good series, but I wouldn’t call it great. It’s a pioneering series for the genre so it deserves respect and is still a good read, albeit a bit too long and with a bit of a dip in quality.

Foundations ranked:

1. Second Foundation
2. Foundation and Empire
3. Forward the Foundation
4. Foundation’s Edge
5. Prelude to Foundation
6. Foundation
7. Foundation and Earth

Not having read the Foundation series yet, this was a great way to have you dive into the life of Hari and to see how the foundation was founded. This book was a bit slow to start but by the back half I couldn’t put it down. Excited to get into Foundation! To see where this adventure takes us.

Hmmmm ... this one I find a little bit ponderous. I am continually frustrated by the volume of information combined with several glaring pieces of information which are lacking. It's a good read, just not as good as some of the other foundation books and I'm a little baffled by the ending, honestly.

These prequels outdid the 6 originals. I honestly couldn’t ask for more in a story. It just brought everything together so perfectly. No notes.
