I'm usually slow to abandon a book, but I'm giving up on this one before I hit page 50. It's not that it's poorly written; it's more that it's unremarkable in every way. There's nothing about the story or the characters that grabs me.

I usually enjoy best-friends-turned-to-lovers kind of stories but this one felt boring and did not engage me. Danielle and Wes have too much things and feelings that are hiding from each other for so-called best friends and obviously there is an attraction just they are too cowardly to act on it. It should have been sweet it should have been hot, but I often found myself planning which next book I will read. And last 30% of book I was thinking 'Argh get together already so I can go and read something really interesting.'

My rating: 2.5 stars

Will I be reading something else written by Cindi Madsen? Nope.

I recommend this book to fans of: clean contemporary romance novels, fake engagement plots, best friends turn to lovers type of romance.

Such a super cute, cheesy, light, fluffy read. It was AMAZING!!

"But whatever will we do with all that room?' A mischievous grin that sent her body tingling with anticipation curved his lips. 'Five bucks I can figure something out.'"

This was such a cute story and it was believable too which I rarely find in books anymore. The only thing that was missing, and why I didn't give it five stars, was there were no delicious sex scenes between the two :( I know, I know, I'm a total book whore but I can't help it with these two I demand a love scene!!!

Great book, I'm looking forward to reading more from Cindi Madsen!

"She accepts that you're part of my life or she's not a part of mine."

Falling For Her Fiancé is everything I love about the Bliss line. This book is heartfelt, playful, and real. It's one of those book where you adore the characters and love watching them crash and burn into love. I couldn't get enough of Falling For Her Fiance and when it was over I totally wanted more!

This is about two people who have been best friends since college who decide to pretend to be engaged for various reasons and end up realizing that they're in love. And pretend engagements/marriages is one of my favorite tropes, so I think my main enjoyment came just from enjoying that trope more than enjoying the book? I mean, the writing wasn't terrible and I liked the main characters and their relationship well enough, but something about the story was just… off to me? I can't really pinpoint it, but overall it just felt like it was missing some kind of spark or something, idk. If I wasn't so into the pretend engagement trope, I probably wouldn't have ended up enjoying it very much, but since that is one of my favorites, I felt like the book ended up being decent enough.

Read it on my blog

Dani is living and working in Arkansas after moving there with her boyfriend, who subsequently dumps her and leaves her there alone with no family or friends. She’s working for a marketing agency, though she graduated in History, and she is hoping for a promotion in order to help her mother pay for her grandmother’s medical bills. Danielle thinks that if she had a husband or even a steady boyfriend, she would be more likely to get the promotion because the idiot she works under is married and that could be the only reason he was promoted over her.

Wes is living his dream of being a helicopter pilot, but his sister’s wedding is coming up and his ex-fiance will be a bridesmaid. He’s tired of everyone giving him pitying looks because they don’t believe that he’s over her dumping him. Wes’ ex didn’t like his relationship with Dani, his best friend since college, the same way that Dani’s ex didn’t like Wes. But their friendship has withstood their exes because it’s so strong.

The conflict is that neither of them want to mess up their friendship, which is the most important thing in their lives. Add to that the fact that Wes attempted something early in their relationship when they were both drunk and there was no chemistry. Now they both feel an undeniable attraction, but are unwilling to act on it, so they take every opportunity they have acting as fiances to touch, kiss, and be close to one another, both convinced the other cannot feel the same way.

I love a good “friends to lovers” story and this one did not disappoint, though there wasn’t any sexing. Both Dani & Wes were funny and smart and their chemistry was undeniable, but they were both very stubborn. I enjoyed seeing both sides of the story and all the obstacles in their way, but at the same time, it wasn’t particularly earth shattering. This story has definitely been told before, but I liked it and would read more by this author. It’s a great pick for a quick, light read that has a happy ending. And sometimes, that is exactly what you need.

Review originally posted on my blog: I Heart Fictional People

INITIAL THOUGHTS

So, I saw that this book was free on my Nook, so I downloaded it probably over a year ago. Then, I was trying to complete the Monthly Keyword Reading Challenge for January, so as I was looking through all my eBooks that I haven’t read, I noticed this one had one of January’s keywords in the title. And I’m a sucker for the whole friends-turn-into-more-than-friends thing. So I was excited to read this one.

WHAT I LIKED

Relatable characters. There were many times throughout the book that I felt like I completely understood what Dani was going through and thinking. I don’t want to give anything away, but her thoughts on relationships and moving on were spot on. I really liked that.

The relationship. I liked the little things about Dani and Wes’ relationship. For example, they bet $5.00 on just about everything. They’re always like, “Five bucks I can do this” or “Five bucks I’ll win.” I thought that was super cute.

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE

The lack of buildup. We know Dani and Wes are best friends, but I wanted their feelings for each other to gradually grow. They already wanted each other within the first 20 pages. What?! That kind of killed it for me. I wanted to see them as friends first. I wanted to see their relationship without the desire for each other. The instant-attraction thing needs to be saved for relationships where people first meet, not best friends who have known each other forever.

The POV. I have mixed feelings when books are written in the third person omniscient POV. If it is done right, it’s fine, but usually, I get frustrated. We are in Dani’s brain in one paragraph and then in Wes’ brain literally in the next paragraph. I don’t like that! Can we just stick to one person per section or chapter please?? I guess it’s just a personal preference. It gets confusing though!

Lack of connection. I just didn’t feel it. They’re best friends, they fake an engagement, they start to fall for each other…but I didn’t feel a connection. I was just like “okay, whatever, I don’t really care.” I have to care about these characters, and I didn’t. I will probably forget everything about this book within a couple months.

OVERALL THOUGHTS

I really wanted to like this one, but it was just okay for me. Nothing special. Forgettable, unfortunately. Ultimately, I just didn’t care enough about the characters. Therefore, I just couldn’t give it more than 2 hearts.

Yay for best friends who become something more!! I absolutely adore stories where the main characters don't seem to see what's right in front of them. Cindi Madsen draws a picture of two people, both struggling to put heartbreak behind them, who are completely devoted to one another. The BEST of friends. Maybe the spark wasn't there before, but it certainly is now. They just need to realize it.

This book is funny, cute and endlessly romantic. There were times when I wanted to hug it, throw it, yell at it, or stick it in the freezer. Sometimes all those things at once. At points I thought issues were being resolved only to twist and turn into another page-turning complication. (UGH. SOPHIE.) The story draws you in and you just can't stop until you see how it all plays out.

Falling For Her Fiancé is the first adult book I've read by Cindi Madsen, although not the first I've read by her. She weaves just the right touch of romance into her stories, but this time it's a little bit more. I mean DANG she can write some steamy scenes! Not too graphic or over the top, and they don't leave you hanging - really well done.

I absolutely loved it!! Definitely looking forward to reading more of Cindi's books. :)

A cute funny read. I enjoyed it. I thought some of her books were better than this one, but I enjoyed it.
