I had to start over about six times, and the book was partly to blame for that as well as for my month-long reading slump.

This book is incredibly readable, but it's just unfortunate that the pacing was so slow at the beginning. Once you're in, you're hooked, and that's mostly thanks to the author's storytelling skills, but the dedication needed to get to that point is almost not worth it.

It also felt too much like a high school novel disguised as a fantasy at times, which is something I really dislike, and the story is very forgettable, probably because the plot is quite predictable and overdone as well.

I had a good time, but that's about it 🤷‍♀️

I liked this better than the first. I enjoyed the glimpses of Cardan’s character development. I was worried from the hype of these books that this was going to veer in the direction of bully romance. Which it has flavors of, but I don’t mind so much because Jude is as much or more of a bully as Cardin is, plus there’s no pretending at love for either of them.
