I genuinely enjoyed the book. This young adult novel is about high school friendship and the difficulty with race and the difficulty with teens' views of themselves. This book talks about pretty difficult topics and does it pretty well as well as looking at the Young romance blooming between two characters.

This took me a few chapters to get into, I didn’t think I’d love the plot, but it grew on me…I think!
It wasn’t a deep book at all, though feelings were talked about a lot, it felt necessary To the storyline rather than a glimpse into the characters, though it did evolve into depth as the book progressed.
Honestly this book really felt like a teen romance novel and I wanted it to be more…whilst I didn’t hate it, I didn’t love it either!

I loved this book dearly as I basically never see proper representation of people who look like me. Quinn was annoying sometimes but that was mostly because of the immense form of sheltering in her life; especially in terms of how to view Black culture and individuals. It was relatable in a heartwrenching way, knowing that she was struggling to fully accept herself and her culture. Carter is also incredibly helpful while also not acting as a savior to her, despite also being Black himself. They learn to coexist and uplift one another, helping each other save themselves from societal influences.

This was such a sweet romance about finding who you are and surrounding yourself who support the authentic you.
