If you’re looking for a novel that contains profound observations about society behind a deceptively simple storyline, read this book. If you’re someone who loves satire that is so artfully done you’ll be giggling out loud while simultaneously thinking, “shit, that’s so true”, read this book. If you want to think about religion, war and man’s search for meaning, read this book. If, like me, you adored Kurt Vonnegut’s most popular book (Slaughterhouse-Five)and are curious to see what else this author has to offer, definitely read this book.
You’ll be delighted with what you find.

I'm really not sure about this book. I've read Slaughterhouse 5 and I had the same issue with that book too...I get the plot, I understand everything that happens, but I'm not sure it was all that interesting.
I found the first half to be more interesting that the second half. We explore the man who was the father of the atomic bomb and we learn about his family and the theoretical compound of ice-nine.
The parts on San Lorenzo had me skipping ahead a bit to get to the actual apocalypse, which only shows up a few chapters from the end after we've learnt the socio-political history of the Island nation.
I guess I expected more "apocalypse" in the book!

Revisiting this book after first having read it in college. I recall loving it at the time but was disappointed on re-read, felt a bit flat and was bored by the end. Fast paced, mildly funny but dark satire.

So strange - It makes me better understand some people I met that raved about this book. I enjoyed the notion of ice-nine, but way too philosophical for me.

Wow, I’m surprised how similar this is to Slaughter House Five. Kurt does a great job of pulling you in with absurd situations and then wrapping it all nicely with a bow. So many quotable lines.
Graphic: Racial slurs
Moderate: Suicide

Not a book for me. It seemed like a book written by someone who didn't give a fuck about writing. I kept reading just because i heard that it's a great book. Should have left it after the first 50 pages.
