This one had quite an intriguing name, but perhaps one of the last ones that I read. Don't remember much about this one except that it wasn't quite of the same pedigree as [b:The Hound of the Baskervilles|8921|The Hound of the Baskervilles (Sherlock Holmes, #5)|Arthur Conan Doyle|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1355929358s/8921.jpg|3311984].

This was a typical Holmes book, and ideally I think this was supposed to be book number 3 or 4 , before the final battle with Dr Moriarty .
WHAT I LIKED :
The first few chapters exclusively depicted the talents of Holmes , starting with him deciphering a letter without cipher and things just went on to become more interesting with the way Holmes treated the various mysteries .
One of my biggest plus for this book is the fact that Holmes negative characteristics attributes were hidden in this book , we never witnessed him indulging in drugs or trying to appear as an arrogant know-it-all .
WHAT I DIDNT LIKE :
While the set up for the plot was splendid , the mystery was east to decipher and it became a predictable affair .
Also , just like in a study in scarlet we had to read a part 2 where the accused narrated his ordeal prior to the actual event of the book . This was a dull read , predictable and honestly made me lack any excitement .
CONCLUSION:
This was one of the better books in the Holmes series , showcasing everything that's good with the lead character as well as showing a good mystery for readers to unravel

More like a 3.5
I'm more of a fan of the Sherlock Holmes short stories
A few very solid twists though
