I'm imagining that 80% of readers saw the major twist ending coming... I, in classic Kathy fashion, was absolutely blindsided and thought the twist was well-executed and shocking. It was also, however, extremely sad... though the story was interesting and the twist was gripping, I left this book with the wind taken straight out of my sails.

SpoilerI didn't expect "We Were Liars" to turn into a book about coping with death and guilt, and I was actually a little frustrated that we were allowed to fall in love (or maybe just like, but still develop feelings) with these teen characters who all turned out to be dead... as I said, the twist was effective but after the shock wore off I was just sad. The tragedy was so needless, and I think that might be part of the reason my lingering feeling was just depression.

So 4 stars at the very least for the twist, offset with 2 stars for the dissatisfaction I felt after, leads to a middle-ground three star rating from me.

This book was just not for me. I found it incredibly boring for most of the time. I didn’t even realize it was suppose to be a thriller until more than halfway through. I also hated every single character. Their greed and selfishness made me sick and annoyed.

I gave it 3 stars instead of 2 because I was truly shocked by the ending and the “truth”.

Spoiler
The ending just made me sick and angry. Even though I didn’t like the characters, it was horrible to read about all the Liars dying. All just because of their families disgusting greed. And it makes me so mad that the kids were so so stupid and again selfish. They were tying to “save” their family, by trying to hurt everyone.

Also this is called “We Were Liars” and the cousins called themselves the Liars. But why? That was never explained or explored. So why the heck is that the title?
