An overall enjoyable read. I liked the characters and the idea of a Lady Sherlock. I found the execution (particularly the pacing) a little problematic, but not enough to prevent me from returning to the series (especially since I believe it's the author's first book). I'm excited to read more about Charlotte Holmes and company.

Have I shrunk the expanse of my media intake to just historical fiction mysteries that take place in Victorian era UK with a side of slow burn romance with a crime fighting partner of sorts, and watching baseball? Yes. Does that make me biased? Undoubtedly.

But as a person who has read many a book in such a category (check the profile! It’s the only kind of book I’ve read this year babes!) this is one of the better ones.

Finally something in the third person that follows multiple characters and gives each of them a certain amount of depth and personality. Also, as someone slightly on the spectrum, boy do I relate to Holmes. I also had that moment when I realized I could no longer be a freak and had to play by the weird societal rules imposed on me. lol

I listened to the audiobook. I felt that the book was hard to follow while listening because of all the names and hidden identities.

There were times when I couldn't really tell when the book would go into the case or if it was another scene from Charlotte's life. But I think I would read a second book. However, it would need to be a bit shorter, needs some clarity, and a clear distinction about when we're talking about Charlotte acting as Sherlock Holmes or when she's solving the case as herself.

A fun read, and I liked how they set up 'Sherlock's' back story. I found the mystery a little convoluted and had a hard time keeping track of who's who outside of the main characters. I did enjoy Charlotte's spunk and might try another one because I enjoyed the main characters and thought they were fun. Maybe I'd like it more with a better mystery. We'll see.

It's a little hard to figure out how this connects to Holmes at first, but all becomes clear. It's a very feminist version, with an interesting dose of Victoriana and a solid mystery that makes it more of a pleasant meander and less of a page turner, but the audio version is well delivered and the characters are individual enough I can't wait to read more.

Enjoyable enough that I will pick up the second, but at times muddled and problematic. Very weird about food and weight for honestly no reason at all, and also weirdly convoluted with the non-mystery aspects.

I would say somewhere in the 3.5 range!

The mystery was convoluted- I didn't actually understand it until I read a summary online. But I did like Charlotte, Mrs Watson, and Lord Ingram- despite Charlotte missing details that the observant Sherlock wouldn't miss. Liked it enough to read book 2 and hope for a clearer plot next time.
