This is a fun read. It taught me a bunch about this mythology (and I love learning about- well, everything), and
Spoilerthe part about gi (life force) being a part of running the ships
brought really cool images to mind. I recommend it to any reader.

I read a short story collection by Yoon Ha Lee and was captivated by the intelligence, imagination, and subtlety. I was also a bit wary of the penchant for warfare and space travel - neither is my favorite. I was interested to see how this intelligent and subtle voice could translate to a book for youth. The result is a fun, clever story with a clear plot and a good pace. What's striking about it, and where those beloved traits appear, is how the world-building is assumed - it develops not in exposition but in how the characters accept and interpret their own environments. I've seen a lot of authors try to incorporate commentary and questions about current hot topics, and they quite often seem forced and pedantic. Here, they're simply a part of the world, and that's an amazing gift to give young readers.
I'm excited to buy this for my nephew, who loves mythology, battles, acceptance, and general tricksiness.

Holy space opera, Batman! A beautiful weaving of Korean mythology and science fiction adventure, this book was filled to the brim with imaginative world-building and nail-biting mystery. Can’t wait to read the next book about the Thousand Worlds!

This book is amazing! I would have loved it more if I was a teen (nowadays not even uncle Rick's new books do that for me, which is a bit sad, but that's alright), but I still found the storyline pretty great, loved to see korean traditional aspects with a new perspective, had fun with the sci-fi scenarios and also liked the characters :)

Didn't realize this was a middle-grade book. No matter, Dragon Pearl is super fun for 'kids' of all ages.

Three years later, and I actually liked it this time. It's not my favorite Rick Riordan Presents, but it is by no means bad.

DNF at page 29.

I really did not like the main character's personality. She was a huge idiot, even for being 12 or 13. She was also all over the place. I set this down to read something else and I don't really want to pick it up again.
