This picture book is a heart-warming celebration of family life. Parents definitely aren't just there to boss children around and here are pages and pages of wonderful pictures to prove it.

Parents sort out all of life's little mishaps, whether you've dropped ice cream on a stranger's boots or lost some toys in the garden. The rhyming text is perfect and the illustrations expand on it with gentle humour, so there's plenty to talk about on every page. I particularly loved the double spread showing Mum as a donkey: it brought back so many memories! But all of the illustrations deserve close attention. Parents are sure to recognize themselves here, whether they're the dad trying to read while holding up the children's tent, or the mum napping on the sofa.

This is definitely a book to be treasured. I loved it!

The perfect marriage of writing and illustration. This book is so funny and engaging that it will appeal equally to parents and children. Would also be a very good read aloud book for storytime.

What are parents for? Well, according to this book, they may be targets of kechup and hoses and also give cuddles and tickles. The book is rather silly and children and parents may enjoy this funny, rhyming book.

This picture book is brilliant! It's a great reminder for children just how great their parents actually are, when they're feeling like they just tell them what to do all the time.

The rhythm of this rhyming story is wonderful, and that alone, read aloud to children, would be enough to make them laugh, but the story of Meet the Parents is bound to make children really giggle. With some of the cheeky-naughty things that children do to their parents, as well as sharing all the fun they can have together, it's really amusing. I'm sure it will give children ideas too; who wouldn't want their Dad to help them make a den?

Most of the illustrations in this book are awesome, but there are some that look really scribbled, especially when it comes to the toning of the illustrations, and the characters' hair. I understand that's Ogilvie's style, but it just seemed a little messy to me. I'm sure others will like it, but I just think it's such a great story and some of the illustrations let it down a little. It's not a big thing though, just personal preference, and children are sure to love it!

I will be looking out for more of Peter Bently's stories in future, he's got just the right sense of humour. I love it!

Thank you to Simon and Schuster Children's Books for the review copy.

Yikes.

Parents, read this to your kids at your own risk!

The first half of this book is definitely accurate, but it's behavior that probably shouldn't be encouraged. Not only that, its behavior that's only applicable if you have a certain type of parent. There are lots of kids who will find this amusing but not at all relatable. Other than that, the art is exceptional and the rhyme scheme is lots of fun.

P.S. I assumed from the cover that kids were going to be the parents. But nope, they're the ones tormenting the loving adults in their lives.

This is lovely, but could have done with an acknowledgement that kids should treat their parents well, too.
