I received this as an arc for my honest review

This was good paranormal romance story with a hockey twist. I liked the story even if PNR isn’t really my thing. But it was a different take on the genre and the story was really well written. I definitely won’t hesitate to pick up another book by Kat Obie.

A unique storyline

This isn't my typical type of read since I don't read paranormal but I love Kat's other two hockey series so I wanted to read this. I love the premise of the series -- a team of shifters playing in the league.

This was a great first book for the series because It's set up the structure of the team, introducing different players and the fact that everyone on the team is a shifter but we don't have all the details about everyone yet so it keeps you wanting to read more. It also ties to her loving the sound series because the main character in this book is the sibling of one of the players on that team so we get some crossover dynamics and some scenes with players from that team. It's always fun to see what that team is up to and I love when there are Cameo appearances across different books.

Dez hasn't played hockey in over 5 years. He just sort of disappeared from the league and no one knew why. He's invited to join the Wild which not only gives him a second chance at hockey but it also gives him a second chance to have Scarlett in his life.

I'm not a fan of second-chance romances and this one doesn't have a lot going for it. I don't think there is much chemistry and it's cheesy.

The characters are all robotic feeling with little chemistry, I never really cared about them. The story is boring, and the relationship was a snooze fest. Worst of all the writing was horrendous. Didn’t expect much since this was a free kindle book.

Dez Smith had a promising career in the NHL, until a vicious attack killed his girlfriend and left him maimed…and turned him into a werewolf. He’s spent the last 5 years solo, hiding out in Yukon adapting to life as a werewolf. But then he’s approached by the GM of the Minnesota Wild who wants him back in the league, offering him a one-year $5M contract. It’s enough to lure a lone wolf back to the big city. When one of the team’s PR staff comes to get some media background, it turns out to be Scarlet Kingman, who he has known since high school. He senses an immediate and primal connection. Can Dez balance his new life back on the ice with a team that’s 80% shapeshifters with a newfound romance?

A few nights ago, @bookishdreamer61 and I were going through a bunch of free ebooks on Kindle. We both saw this one flagged with the keywords that were music to my ears: hockey romance, paranormal romance, fated mates. I can’t say I enjoyed this one for the writing or the plot, but the concept was fantastic, if shapeshifter hockey romances are a thing you could be into. I completely loved that the team Dez joins is the Wild, and that it’s comprised of shapeshifters and only play matinees when the moon is full and who sometimes have a hard time adapting to an arena full of fans. Dez is an omega wolf and his subtle leadership style works with the team and on the ice. Big bonus points to the team *not* winning the Stanley Cup (it’s my biggest pet peeve in sports romances when the championship run is a part of the plot, especially in hockey). I also love that this paranormal series takes place in the same world as Kat Obie’s non-paranormal hockey series.
