Well written and interesting take on the story of Aeneas, from the viewpoint of his Italian wife Lavinia.
Not many write about the history of Italy before Roman times, so this was refreshing in that sense.
The incorporation of Virgil into the story was masterfully done, as was the recreation of the times, the people, the rites, and the land.
So, too, the creation of a story using a character that appears briefly, and does not even speak, in the Aeneid
Highly recommended for fans of historical fiction.

“Lavinia” transports readers to a lost world shrouded in a veil of ambiguity and mystique. The author’s commitment to accurately reflecting the customs and cultures of ancient Rome and its predecessors, the Latins, while weaving in the epic legend of Aeneas is simply inspired.
Breathtaking and brilliantly crafted from a perspective most, including myself, likely looked over while reading, in translation or otherwise, Vergil’s Aeneid.
