I really like this series. It’s not high brow literature, nor is it trying to be. But the mysteries are clever and many of the characters are likable.

MUCH ADO ABOUT NUTMEG, the sixth book in the Pancake House Mystery series by Sarah Fox, is a delicious return to The Flip Side pancake house featuring Marley McKinney. One of the things I enjoy about this series is that the protagonist has a full-time job as owner of the Flip Side and she devotes the necessary time and energy into making it a success. Marley doesn’t shirk her responsibilities, yet manages to get enough investigating done to track down clues and solve the case. I also like that her fiancé, Brett, gives her as much support as she wants and needs when investigating, instead of telling her to stay out of it… especially since his Uncle Ray is the sheriff. Even Uncle Ray seems to appreciate her ability to find out information that he can’t, despite his concern over her well-being. The action starts off quickly, with two murders within the first 24 hour period of the book. The plot is well paced and there are twists and turns that add to the intrigue. I was totally caught off-guard for the reveal…I didn’t see it coming at all and it added to my delight looking back at how the clues pointed in that direction.

Marley and her supporting characters are well-developed and are people I enjoy spending time with. While MUCH ADO ABOUT NUTMEG can be read as a stand-alone, this is a series that improves with each addition as the characters grow and change. The author’s descriptive voice brings both the characters and the setting to life, as well as making you drool over all the delicious food served at The Flip Side! Ms. Fox includes several recipes at the back of the book and they all sound delectable.

I was provided with an advance copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

MUCH ADO ABOUT NUTMEG by Sarah Fox
The Sixth Pancake House Mystery

The Flip Side is doing great business as tourists arrive in droves for Wildwood Cove's Golden Oldies Games. Marley McKinney is pleased to meet many of the competitors and is happy to see that her friend Ed seems to be smitten with one of the reporters. Her delight turns to anger when she overhears the woman admit to using Ed. When Marley witnesses an argument and hears angry comments against the woman she knows that this reporter is bad news. It's more than Ed's broken heart that's at stake when Ivan finds a dead body on the beach. It's not the competitor who fell overboard his yacht and is missing, it's the reporter. And she didn't accidentally drown, she's been murdered.

I was so excited to be back at the Flip Side in Wildwood Cove. Each time I'm dazzled by Ivan's culinary skill and drool over him and his creations; banana nut pancakes, anyone? The sixth entry into the Pancake House Mystery is special in that Marley and Brett are finalizing their wedding plans. But don't think the book is all food and romance. There is an intricate mystery featured here.

There are lots of suspects to be found at the Golden Oldies Games, athletes, journalists, and coaches, as well as friends and followers of the event. Many of these suspects have a history, which Marley needs to uncover in order to sate her curiosity and solve the mystery. While everyone has pretty much given up on getting Marley to stop her sleuthing, she finds herself understanding their dread at her inquisitive nature, as teenager Sienna has got the sleuthing bug and has Marley concerned for her welfare. I had my own theories, but found myself quite surprised at the way the mystery unfolded.

MUCH ADO ABOUT NUTMEG is a well constructed complex mystery. Characters with heart, a beautiful setting, and scrumptious food make this book even more delectable.

“Much Ado about Nutmeg” by Sarah Fox is the 6th instalment in the “A Pancake House Mystery” series. This was the second book I have read in the series and I thoroughly enjoy them and have the complete series in my TBR.

Marley, the protagonist, is the owner of The Flip Side pancake house in Wildwood Cove, Washington. Currently she is dealing with tourist season and planning her beach wedding which is in 4 weeks time. The Golden Oldies Senior games is in town and it’s extra busy, but when a man drowns and a nasty sports reporter goes missing Marley is itchin to investigate ...

The characters are well-developed. The mystery had just enough suspects, red herrings, and twists and turns to keep you guessing till the end. I found it to be a fun fast read.

Includes pancake recipes right from The Flip Side menu!

I enjoyed this book and recommend to my friends.

I requested and received an Advanced Reader Copy from Netgalley and Kensington books. All thoughts and opinions are my OWN.

The Story line was finely pleasant. The fact is that we are looking forward to a wedding and seeing the preparations and how her friends are coming together to treat her to said wedding.

However, the crime itself felt really unclear. And the suspect list kept going back and forth between the same people.

And the final suspect...
There was no built up to it...
It came out of nowhere. Even the wedding chapter was so rushed. I wanted a bit more details into that.

Other than this, it's one of my favourite mystery series and I like the recipes alot

Marley is running a pancake house, planning her wedding, and dealing with an influx of customers because the Golden Oldie Games are in town. Then a reporter with a lot of enemies is murdered, and Marley starts investigating.

This is a good mystery with some twists and turns. It is book six in a series, but can be read as a stand-alone novel. The book moves slowly at times. Although it was a good cozy mystery, I was not interested enough in the characters to want to go back and read the other five books. 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4.

I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley and the publishers. My review is voluntary.
