Oof this book was CRAZY. I actually really enjoyed it! It was a thriller from start to finish and I LOVED Eden's character! She was so brave to confront her mother and former life in the way she did. I also liked the attraction to her and Zach. Where this lost a star for me was the ending. I knew it was going to be difficult to reconcile the two stubborn characters who were doing their dream jobs but I didn't love that Eden is the one who left behind her career. She was the one who had sacrificed EVERYTHING. I know in the end they were happy but I struggled with that one.

For me it’s hard to tell whether the reason I didn’t love this book was the actual plot or the narrator. The narrator was like…. Siri. Very robotic, hard to distinguish who was talking, and the spicy scenes were so awkward.

The story itself was fun- I love a good cult/commune theme and this story had a little Greek mythology twisted in- classic Katee Robert. I definitely didn’t guess the killer and was interested the whole time. Didn’t love the “love” story because it felt a little out of place. This may have been because the narrator was kind of cringey.

My favorite parts were when MC Eden went back to the commune where she was raised to help investigate whether her mother and her cult following were involved in the disappearances and murders of two young women. The gaslighting was phenomenal, as was the brainwashing of these young members. The cult had its roots in the story of Persephone, Demeter and Hades which was very on brand. The ritualistic killing of women and branding with tattoos was

This just felt really slow throughout most of the book, but the redeeming quality was that I didn’t guess the ending! It obviously kept me coming back to figure out who the killer was, but I’m not sure I’ll ever read it again.

I very rarely say this, but I honestly think this book could've used an extra hundred pages or so. The development of the characters, plot, and relationships just fell a bit flat for me because there was so little foundation. It really did have promise, and I definitely enjoyed the mystery and suspense elements of the story, but I didn't enjoy the book overall because it was so rushed in its progression.

There was also an eye-twitching use of "on accident"... but let's not get into that ;)

A haunting read with interesting characters and a good premise. I liked the protagonist though the mystery element was too much for me.
