In Glass Houses we see that Gamache has done another shift in regards to the scope of his responsibilities and his job. I would have liked to see him do another year as Commander Gamache at the academy however as hinted in The Great Reckoning Gamache is now Superintendent of the police force, a job he was vehemently against having. In Glass Houses we see how difficult it is to separate the man from the job and the job from the place we lay our heads. Glass Houses is a bit of a story of the chicken or the egg....has Gamache brought tragedy to Three Pines with his presence or was Three Pines just uniquely primed for what is to occur.
While I loved Glass Houses I thought the scope was so massive that it felt a little bit unbelievable. That being said it did not take away from my enjoyment of the story one bit. I was in it for every moment, every storyline, and every character. I enjoyed the autumnal atmosphere of a masked person standing in the village green but the ending drove me crazy. Personally I don't know that I would be able to forgive Gamache what he has done.what I believe he brought Three Pines himself. I do not agree with his choices. I don't believe the risk taken with have the effect he believes in.....at least not in the real world.
Also Ruth was safe at homewhen Gamache had her summoned into the dangerous situation
, id be pissed.

How is it that each Inspector Gamache, Three Pines mystery, is better than the one before. Wow, this storyline was creepy, riveting, suspenseful, heart wenching.
Inspector Gamache is now Chief Superintendent and head of Sûreté du Québec. We start while Gamache is testifying about the murder that happened months ago in Three Pines. We learn of the Cobrador del Frac --a debt collector. The original Cobrador was a collector of financial debt, the other a collector of moral debt. Ms. Penny's description and telling of the history of the Cobrador was eery and creepy. When a Cobrador finds itself in Three Pines, I had goosebumps going up my spine.
Masterful and compelling storytelling....how Ms. Penny weaves the story in and out of the past and present heightens the suspense. I couldn't put the book down...it was another "up all night" read. Ms. Penny's writing is like poetry and her vivid descriptions put me right in the middle of the story.
More please!!!!

Interesting who dun it set in a small Canadian town. A part of a series and therefore the characters are not well developed. I am sure I would like the book more if I had read the series.
