Hayes has such wonderful writing. Out of love is an emotional journey that really captures the ways events stack and tumble upon one another. The backwards structure reminds me of the thinking process after a breakup; obsessing over the bad stuff then gradually backtracking to the happy beginnings of the relationship. It’s a genius idea to show us the story in reverse. Almost forcing us to make judgements, before filling in the blanks of in our perspective.

Just not for me—the moving backwards through a failed relationship didn’t draw me in.

Loved the book and laughed aloud at lines often.
I really enjoyed the backwards nature of the story and the hints at what we're to come from past events but did think there were a few moments where I information was repeated that didn't tell me anything new about a character.

Brilliantly written - I wondered how the author would keep the timelines sensible and the story relevant when everything was essentially in reverse, but she pulled it off so well. Can be read for the writing style alone, but do heed the content warnings.
Moderate: Addiction, Adult/minor relationship, Domestic abuse, Suicidal thoughts, and Suicide attempt

I kept blinking and another fifty pages had gone by. Genuinely really good.
Can't put my finger on what made it not-quite-five-stars. Maybe more gay stuff?
Edit: I've reflected on the book more over the past 20 minutes and have concluded that what I thought made the book less perfect is actually what made it perfect. So it's five stars after all!
