i love the concept of a hivemind at war with itself. the whole thing about a ship consisting partially of humans, as a hivemind (not the one at war with itself, incidentally, this one's also controlled by AI) is so fascinating and i love the way it is explored. i also enjoy how one of these former-ship-hivemind ancillaries (as that's what they're called) deals with individuality. frankly, i wish it would have been explored a little more, but then im a sucker for that kinda stuff. I'm going to have to check out the sequel, i think

Boring AF, nothing really happening. This is another of those wannabe highbrow books in the vain of 'A Memory Called Empire'. Lot's of dialogue where the author tries to load it with layers and subtext, unfortunately this is so far fetched that the protagonist explains the hidden meaning of the dialogues afterwards because no one would get that.
There is a very interesting world, an interesting enemy, interesting politics, space travel etc. etc but it does not really get explored. Instead we get treated to mundane problems of a, granted, interesting protagonist. I wished this was more scifi and less drama.
DNF the series. :(

Somewhat confusing with many characters whose names change.

Fue duro engancharme y por momentos me plantee abandonar, pero por el 60% la cosa se puso buena. Es una historia original y la narración está muy buena.

LOVED this book! Character work was top-notch, especially with secondary characters! Parts of the beginning were cryptic and you have to pay attention to get enough context to understand the setting and keep track of names, but I thought everything was introduced and explored well enough that you have everything you need by the time you need it, and it lends more mystery to the story. I also loved the dual story threads, one taking us through the past alongside the present thread, so you learn the motivations behind Breq's current actions as you go along. This really gets you to connect more to Breq and her quest, as you become invested in her goals yourself instead of just being told at the start what she's doing and why. This makes the finale crazy good! I'm used to stories that don't quite stick the landing at the end, but this book really exceeded my expectations and everything from the start of the climax through the end was fantastic! Also I love Seivarden and the relationship that develops between her and Breq. Like Seivarden is lowkey a dumbass parasite hanging onto Breq but I love that for both of them.
