While the setting and situations are similar, it is amazing how Ruby Dixon can make each book and its characters stand out. I personally enjoyed Aehako and Kira more than Raahosh and Liz. If you have triggers for infertility, though, this may not be the book for you.

I love how Aehako is totally smitten with Kira without needing to resonate to her. I love his happy and dedicated personality.

I liked Kira because I could relate to her more quiet and reserved personality.

Plot-wise I enjoyed getting to see and learn more about the old space ship that the sakh aliens crashed on. I liked the action that picked up toward the end with
the Little Green Men returning
. I'm looking forward to finding out more about the world and the aliens in future books.

only ruby dixon can take the couple of my fave side characters and make it a fucking slog to get through.

if youre struggling to conceive or have fertility issues dont read this book because it will make you feel like shit. kira does nothing but describe herself as "flawed" and "broken" constantly because she is infertile due to a medical reason as a teen. instead of doing something interesting with a character that is not affected by the parasite in the same way the other humans are, the author makes kira a woman tormented and unbearable due to it.

"It was his choice to mate me despite knowing my flaws." - Kira (yes the 'flaw' is her being infertile.)

the actual plot beats of the evil aliens from book 1 returning are interesting but are too few compared to the many scenes of the author constantly reminding us of her pregnancy fetish.

the way everyone treated harlow was also so fucked up but i dont want to spoil too much. to me it just further illustrates how the characters will act out of character just when it's most convenient to the plot.

vektal and georgie continue to be so unlovable in this book as well. as if theyre the only two people that matter to each other and everyone else can die for all they care.

and my personal fave thing to hate on is how little the translator stuff makes sense. how can aehako not know what a "tub" is, but knows what calling someone "randy" means?

This was a fun and quick read! I think that the story & focus on the romance was sweet, especially with how things ended up between the two main characters. It was cool to be able to get into Kira’s mind and understand what she’s been thinking & why she’s been acting the way she has. It was also nice to see her as a badass, because who doesn’t love a strong-willed female kicking ass?
I’m a little worried as to what happened to Harlow? And why was everyone so quick to think that she just ‘ran away’? She seemed very level headed and smart, not one to just prance off into the unknown, freezing wilderness alone! Hopefully we can see where that all ends up in the next novel because I’m intrigued.

I liked this one!! I liked these characters and their relationship much more than Liz and Rahoshs and they are currently my favorite couple so far. I loved the positivity and the curiosity and the adventure and the bravery. I liked that this male was so much nicer as well.

To my surprise, Barbarian Lover is my favorite so far. Sweet Kira is so lovable to me.

This overarching plot of this book focuses on Kira's fears that the aliens that abducted them from Earth might be able to track her and the other women via the translation device they implanted in her ear. While she's stressing out about possibly putting everyone in danger she's also being courted by Aehako.

Dixon does a great job at writing in Kira's voice, which a very level headed but melancholy one. She tries dealing with Aehako's flirtations with caution since they haven't "resonated".
Plus she believes she can't have kids. I think that's why I fnd this book so romantic. Aehako loves her so much, and not because he's already resonated with her, but because he just wants her.

“I saw you and thought, if ever there was a female that needed a male to make her smile, it was you. And that we would be perfect together.”

This book is very different from the previous two in that it has a more serious tone, and more action. Dixon really does romance and sci-fi well.

This has been my favorite of the series. Kira and Aehako are so sweet and I liked seeing a relationship that started with love first and then resonance. Good times all around.
