I’ll admit, I didn’t like Kira very much at the beginning of the book. But as we learn more about her story and why she acts the way she acts, I’ve grown to respect her. Aehako is truly a perfect mate for her. His cheery sunshine alien self brings her out of her shyness and elicits more of the confidence and determination that she’s held bottled up inside.

And that last chapter had me on a rollercoaster: happy, then heartbroken, hen ecstatic and joy. It would’ve been interesting
to have a couple that doesn’t resonate, that she doesn’t have to get pregnant in order for her to have her happy ending.

Barbarian Lover is another fun, quick read, with plenty of spice and a great pairing. Some of the challenging narrative aspects—especially action—are rushed and awkward, which did diminish the overall quality of the writing and story. However, the romance in this one is especially sweet: it was less fated mates and more friends to lovers, which I absolutely vibe with. I enjoyed seeing Kira and Aehako’s relationship blossom, with them choosing each other first. I admit I hoped that the ending would go in a different direction, but the series is what it is, and I don't fault the books for that. Even if some of the content ultimately doesn’t line up with my preferences or values, I can still appreciate them for what they are—lightheaded, steamy romps.

A fun addition to this series. I liked the approach to infertility, but be mindful that it's a bit theme.

This book had the most plot of the first three entries in the series. That is probably a good thing, because Kira was my least favorite protagonist so far. Georgie was mediocre, and I really liked Liz, but Kira just really bugged me for most of the book. She grew on me towards the end, but I will be happy to move on to a different protagonist in the next one. The reason I rated it 3 stars instead of 2 was because I actually liked the plot of this book! I'm intrigued to unravel some of the mysteries that were set up. My biggest complaint is that I do not think the author handled the topic of infertility well. It almost definitely will trigger someone who has experienced infertility.
