So... unrated, because seriously, this was too long. I read 250 pages then skimmed the rest. I may read the next series, and I really enjoyed the Infernal Devices series, but I really think Cassie Clare should have stopped at book 3 of The Mortal Instruments.

Though a bit predictable at times, I did enjoy the book! The narrative changed from previous installments of the series. The multiple narrators reminded me of a simplified Game of Thrones (grant it, in style only, don't think I'm actually comparing both series). I think it is even better like this, without having to be inside Clary's head the whole time. She can get annoying with all the "Jace is perfect" rants. I would much rather ration her and mix it up with what everyone else is thinking.

The ending? I don't know if I would have enjoyed it better were it different. Is Sebastian turning at the very end a nice touch or isn't it? Can't decide. Same thing goes with the Simon's conclusion.

I liked how she tied in the story with the characters in the Clockwork series. Regarding them, It's perfectly clear who Zachariah is, yet they never disclose his name. What is the point of that?

The side story with the Blackthorns and Emma Carstairs was clearly the author setting up a spin-off. I don't complain! I liked the characters and plan to read that series as well.

Overall, it was an enjoyable read!

I cannot possibly put into words how i feel after reading this series. It was the first fantasy series I ever started, and it changed the way I looked at the world.
I will never find another novel with Clare’s beautiful, melodic writing style. Her descriptions of love are so beautiful and heartbreaking and make you think about the love in your life. I feel so full of every emotion after finishing this series. It was so beautiful and wonderful and heartbreaking.

Okay so I actually finished this around 6am this morning but I was too tired to turn my laptop back on and update my status. I really did like this book even though I had been putting it off. I didn't mind the 'spoilery' things having to do with the Infernal Devices series which I haven't read yet. This does make me wanna go out and get Clockwork Prince and Clockwork Princess.
So glad it ended the way it did and I hope to see these characters in Lady Midnight and beyond even if they are not main characters. and please let Simon remember :(
