This is a difficult book for me to rate. I was completely besotted with this story for the first half of the book. I love Kristin Hannah's descriptions and fully enjoy the detail she puts into everything. But as the story progressed, I found the character choices to become more and more unrealistic. To avoid spoilers, I'll simply say that the denouement was too easily resolved for my personal reading taste.

This book tore my heart apart and then reput it back togeather again, repeatedly. I probably cried while reading  the entire last 10% of the book. Everything about this book felt so true to life, especially the interpersonal relationships and family dynamics that occurred. You could feel the beauty and horror of Alaska seep through every page. This will be a 10/10 recommend from me.
